What do we think of when we think of Easter? Is it the new clothes, all the family going to church together, the Easter Bunny and egg hunts, or is it the magnificent Easter dinner? Easter is all these things, but each of these things is a ritual in celebration of something greater – Jesus Christ’s overcoming and resurrection.

To know that Jesus Christ was expressing as a human, a person like us, helps us to believe some of the magnificent things that He said were possible for each one of us. Here was a man that expressed His divinity and oneness with God to such a degree that He was able to overcome the worst possible thing His world could do. This empowers each of us to know that with God we too can do anything. Easter celebrates the life of Jesus who even though crucified, CONTINUES to live.

Each of us has been crucified in some area of her or his life. Just knowing Jesus Christ helps us to realize that we too can live again. No layoff, divorce, sickness, or rejection can stand up to the life of God that is with you and within you. You can walk through the valley of the shadow of death and fear no evil because Jesus Christ has shown you the way. Jesus Christ spoke the truth, and He was life. Jesus encouraged you to have in you what He had in Him.

That Easter morning when Jesus rose from His tomb forever changed His disciples and the people around Him. This Easter, as you meditate on His accomplishments, you become aware of the accomplishments you can achieve when working with God. Recognizing this is in no way discounting His greatest achievement; rather, it magnifies Him by saying we follow Him.

Start by thinking of some of the small daily crucifixions that life may hand to you, and say to yourself that with God you WILL rise again. Do not permit yourself to lie dead in defeat; get up and follow Jesus Christ in His great overcoming.

He that is in you is greater than what is in the world!

We are Easter people because we know that with God we can rise out of our problems and be resurrected into new life. The spiritual power in the Easter event is that it took the lowest point in Christianity and transformed it into the highest point in Christianity. Anytime God is mixed into a human low, it becomes a human high.

Jesus Christ did not just die for us, even more importantly, He LIVES for us. What a dynamic difference that makes in each and every individual life. The death of Jesus Christ accomplished the death of death itself. We read in 1st Corinthians 15:26 “The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”

Many of us have had crucifixions in some area of our life and with God. We have risen again. In thinking about Easter, know that there is no crucifixion that can kill your life; there is no tomb of conditions that can imprison your spirit; and there are no outer guards that can keep you from your God given good.

I pray that this Easter is different for you. I pray that it sparks the awareness that God working with you can’t be defeated by negative things. I also pray that you will not submit to allowing yourself to be defeated by the appearance of defeat. I pray that you know with God – that down does not mean out, because you are an Easter person.

To improve your ears, listen to the Word of God.

For poise, walk with knowledge and self-esteem.

To strengthen your arms, hug at least 3 people a day; Touch someone with your love.

To strengthen your heart, forgive yourself and others.

For the ultimate in business, casual or evening attire put on the robe of Christ; it fits like a glove but allows room for growth. Best of all, it never goes out of style and is appropriate for any occasion.

Doing these things on a daily basis will certainly make you a more beautiful person.

Once upon a time, the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important to God. The most useful to God. The favorite of God.

Green said:

“Clearly, I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen by God for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority.”

Blue interrupted:

“You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of God’s life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”

Yellow chuckled:

“You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow; the moon is yellow; the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without my God-given color there would be no fun.”

Orange was next to blow her trumpet:

“I am the color of God’s health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don’t hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you.”

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out:

“I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood – God’s life’s blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of God’s love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy.”

Purple rose up to his full height:

He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: “I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me, for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. I am the color of spiritually. People do not question me! They listen and obey.”

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination:

“Think of me. I am the color of God’s silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.”

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly, there was a startling flash of bright lightning; thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down, relentlessly. The colors crouched down for warmth, drawing close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, Rain began to speak:

“You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don’t you know that you were each made by God for a special purpose, unique and different?

“Join hands with one another and come to me.”

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands.

The Rain continued:

“From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow.” And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.

Why do they call Good Friday “good” when it was the day that Jesus was crucified? To all appearances it was the end. To all human senses the worst of humankind seemed to be victorious … AND YET THERE WAS MORE! It was just the darkness before the dawn – The dawn of awakened humanity.

Jesus Christ was tried before Pontius Pilate in the Roman praetorium inside the Antonia Fortress. Here, Roman legions were garrisoned overlooking the Temple of Jerusalem. This large pavement area has been unearthed, consisting of huge limestone blocks, each weighing several tons.

Archaeologists have discovered an interesting game dating back to the New Testament. Etched into the stone pavement of the praetorium is a playing board for game known among the Roman soldiers as “King for a Day.” The soldier who threw his dice on just the right shape won the game. His reward was to be “King for a Day.”

As King, the soldier was dressed in a beautiful purple robe imported from the city of Colossae, where the special purple dye was extracted from seashells. In addition to the robe, the “King” received a crown, scepter, and anything else he wished, but there was one big catch. At the end of the day, the “King” was put to death.

This game sheds new light on the Romans mocking and scourging of Jesus. They beat him, dressed him in a purple robe, gave him a crown of thorns, and told him that he could make demands to save himself. By mocking Jesus, the Roman and Herodian soldiers saw an opportunity to play the “King for a Day” game in a perverse and twisted manner.

But Jesus was not an ordinary man; he was extraordinary.

Jesus rose as he said he would. Jesus was not confined to the tomb. Jesus lives, and his teachings live, because of what happened on Easter weekend.

Many of us have Good Friday experiences in our own lives when we believe all is lost. Then we look to God, and our lives are resurrected into newness. There is new hope and new belief in tomorrow and new gladness to be alive.

Many readers are going through your own personal resurrections. Some of you have been fired. Some of you have gone through downsizing.

Some people reading this have lost trust in someone they trusted in so much. Some have been facing divorce or the death of a loved one. Some of those reading this no longer see their children and they feel a crucifixion every time they think of their children. Some are having creditors beating down the doors of their inner peace.

Most of you have gone through your own crucifixions in the past, and, hopefully, you have discovered the good that the Good Friday truth brings – that there is life after seeming death.

We are Easter people. We are defined more by our resurrections than our crucifixions. I wish you a happy Good Friday in knowledge of a loving God that is everywhere present, accessible, and available to you now. No matter where you may be or what you may face.

HOLY THURSDAY

(Read the entire account of one of Jesus’s most beautiful sermons during the Last Supper John 13 through John 16)

1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:1-7

Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday, is a service to commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper and the beginning of the sacrament, the Lord’s Supper. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.”

Maundy Thursday is often called the day of Christ’s great commandment.

At the Last Supper, Jesus gave the disciples a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). Prior to breaking the bread with the disciples, Jesus washed their feet.

Maundy Thursday worship services often include Holy Communion and sometimes foot washing as well.

Jesus knew what was going to happen to him. As he ate with his disciples he said some of the most important things he could convey.

If I knew that I was going to pass away tomorrow, and was having dinner with some of my closest friends – I would encourage those in attendance to listen harder to what I was going to say than ever before– because this was not an ordinary evening. The message I would convey would not be ordinary either.

Jesus said, John 13:31- “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify and in himself and will glorify him at once.”

This is reassuring the disciples that even know what seems to be coming appears terrible, the Jesus has completed his mission and that God knows this. Jesus did everything to the glory of God – God was glorified in Him. And God will not abandon Jesus God will also glorify, instantaneously at a time when the human sense it seems like the end.

“Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you. “Where I am going, you can’t come.”

Like a father in total love, he is spiritually holding her hand and saying this is the end of our daily association in the physical. But, he is also telling them that there is no death. He is saying that he is going somewhere, but they cannot follow yet*.

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jesus great commandment was given. Jesus says that if you are truly going to follow me as a Christian you must love all people, everywhere, every time without exception. When you become love like this, you become like Jesus and you worship God in the proper way, and all will know that you are a disciple of the living Christ.

*Read on as Jesus talks about “can’t follow yet,” in John 13:36 and on into the 14th chapter it will be some of the most stimulating reading you have ever done, and it may change your life.

One wise person joked, I love God; it’s people that I can’t stand. How can we love the creator and not the creation? How can we love music and not harmony? How can we love sunlight and not the morning?

To be spiritually mature, we must truly follow Jesus in this Holy Thursday commandment.

Second he taught by example. We must let ourselves down from our lofty perches, and seek to serve others. He gave an example of this when he stooped on the floor and started to wash the disciples’ feet. What greater love than this!

One of my favorite stories is of Teddy Roosevelt when he was running for president. One day on the streets of New York City he tipped his hat and bowed to a humble newsboy. The press, ridiculed him. How could a lofty president, of the greatest nation in the world, bow to a humble newsboy?

He said to the press, I was bowing to the potential that I saw in the young lad.

History has not recorded what happened to that newsboy, but I like to think that this brush with greatness – recognizing his greatness, changed his life.

A brush with Jesus in prayer is always coming in contact with someone that recognizes our greatness, and someone that has unconditional love for us.

It is right to lift up Jesus, and yet, he scolded us for it, he said why do you call me good only God is good.

It is normal for greatness to not puff itself up, but rather to be humble and to seek to lift others up. Jesus did not want to be served but rather to serve. Every REAL great person that I have ever known has been the same. They are not inflated egos, but have become great, by seeing the greatness in others and lifting them.

As God does, according to Jesus, SO MUST WE.

We are not just to be seekers of love, but rather givers of love, unconditionally to those around us. Bible says that God is love, and if we are truly to worship God we must worship in love. How do we do this, one of the main ways is to be loving towards our neighbor. Our neighbor is defined as both the familiar person and the unfamiliar, the person that is easy to like, and even -our enemies.

The hidden curriculum of life is soul development, to fully develop in a mature spiritual way we must be loving. We must allow a circulation to take place to all of humanity of giving and receiving.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, I am so thankful that You fill me with Your light and show me the way.
You gently guide me so that I am sure and steady.
You lead me to the place where I can be most helpful, and You remind me to be confident and stand firm once I am there.
You direct my thoughts so that I am enriched by Divine ideas.
And You help me use those ideas to enhance the lives of those around me.
Dear God, here are my hands, my heart, my whole being.
I want to be Your light and love in action.
I am ready to spread goodwill wherever I am.
In all I do, I trust in Your unfailing light – a light burning so brightly within me that it radiates out from me to embrace others with wisdom and understanding.
Today, I feel guided by Your loving Spirit.

This means seize the day. Grab a hold of it with great gusto. And don’t let go! Go into your day with God, partner with God every moment.

Use this opportunity to do something that you want and not to worry about the future. Remember, you’re not alone God is with you.

Seize the day, young of heart. You may never get the chance to embark on such an adventure again. Follow your compass and conquer with wanderlust and enthusiasm.

Carpe Diem!

It means take today and make it the best.

It means wake up and smell the roses.

Make this time the best time (so far) of life!

The Romans came up with this saying because you never knew what tomorrow would bring.

This same principle can be applied today! So … .Carpe Diem!

You’re in charge of how your life is going to go.

Real life happens when you make it happen.

Don’t sit around waiting for life to happen, make life happen. Do whatever is necessary with God’s help to make today better than yesterday.

Do you need to reinvent your life? I have reinvented mine many times, so I know that you can. The “REV” in front of my name stands for “revised!” But I have never done it alone, at least, not in the last 40 years. Trying to live fully alone is a cold isolated path. Living on a daily path of discovery with God, is exciting, invigorating, and always new.

I believe that we get old when yesterday is repeated over and over again. We get tired because life becomes tiring.

People often sit for hours at a time watching reality television programs of other people living.

The best program is when you’re the star, and the storyline is around you.

We need to inject excitement into our lives. People often acquaint excitement to stress, but this is not so.

This is the way life should be lived – to the fullest. Life should be complete. The joy of life is we don’t know what I will see around the next bend.

Be on an unknown adventure, it’s time to take hold of life and not waste another moment.

Never wait, never wait to begin anew. NOW is the time to seize the day.

“For if we have been united with Him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like his.” Romans 6:5

What a joy it is to again pray. As you close your eyes, realize you are not only praying with your family, but also with people around the world joining in prayer through Positive Christianity.

I ask you to join us in this time of prayer.

At this sacred time, we come together for a single purpose. That single purpose is united prayer. The prayers we share reach out to touch people in every corner of our city, at all churches, for prayer is universal.

We join our hearts and minds in stillness. God surrounds us as we move into this time of tranquility. We relax our minds and bodies, and we turn our thoughts toward God’s Presence. A calming peace washes over you and you feel at one with the Christ.

As you dwell in the silence of prayer, you remember these comforting words of Jesus Christ: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Take this thought with you, this Easter week, into the silence of prayer. ..

Our prayer for inner peace is: The Christ is risen as peace. Hold that in your thinking. You are centered in peace.

You now focus your thought on Divine direction. You know that you are never alone as you travel the path of life. The Christ is always with you, to guide and direct you. In every situation, Christ is the ray of light that shines brightly, illuminating our way.

We walk through life serene and secure. We know our paths are bright and our way is clear. How grateful we are, dear God, for guidance. How certain we are that the way to the perfect plan lies before us.

Make me to know Thy ways, oh Lord. Teach me Thy paths. Our prayer for guidance is: The Christ is risen as light. My path is clear.

Accept that, now, in the silence of prayer. . .

Centered in the Christ presence, we gently turn our thoughts to healing. Begin to sense that irrepressible desire for perfect health and wholeness. Our nature is to be strong and well. As we pray and believe, we feel the healing work taking place within us.

We know that even the smallest cell reacts to the Christ presence. Each atom of our bodies attracts the healing love of God. We are bathed in perfect health, which becomes more and more evident.

“For I will restore health to you; and your wounds I will heal,” says the Lord. Our prayer for healing is: The Christ is risen as life. I am healed. We totally accept that thought, now, in the silence of prayer. As we do so, it moves into our body-consciousness; the atoms and cells of our physical body temple accept that thought at the same time . . .

And now we, consciously, open ourselves to the good that awaits us. Our world is filled with abundance of every kind, and it is ours to enjoy. We have faith that Christ is providing for all of our needs. As we realize this, any impression of lack disappears.

As we bask in the light of prosperity, we remember that as children of a loving Provider, we are always cared for in generous ways. As we learn to graciously receive, we also learn to give; and we are twice blessed.

And the Lord will make you abound in prosperity. Our prayer for prosperity is: The Christ is risen as love. I give and receive bountifully. Accept that right now in the silence of prayer . . .

We now return our attention to the present moment, bringing with us, this Easter week a new perspective, of the activity of Christ within us. We are filled with thoughts of peace, guidance, health, and prosperity. We go forward from this place to rediscover our God-given good.

The light of God surrounds us;

The love of God enfolds us;

The power of God protects us;

The presence of God watches over us.

Wherever we are, God is!

In Jesus Christ’s name we pray . . . Amen.

Positive Daily Inspiration – April 10, 2022 - PALM SUNDAY

“And many spread their garments on the road, and others cut down palms from the trees and spread them on the road. Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
Mark 11:8, 9, 10

Palm Sunday is an important day in Christianity, and it’s important for us to look at for the lessons it contains.

Palm Sunday is the day that Jesus made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of an unridden donkey. People along the way waved palm branches in welcome shouting “Hosanna – blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord”. They laid those palm branches as a sort of “red carpet” for his animal to walk on. Our desire to follow Jesus must contain more than following the physical man of Jesus Christ. We must honor him by living his teachings in our own daily lives.

What teachings does Palm Sunday contain for us? Jesus taught by example on Palm Sunday.

First – Riding a donkey into Jerusalem instead of a magnificent white horse, or golden chariot, shows confidence. This was confidence beyond human confidence. He rode the path in humility. There was no self-need to build himself up through an outer show of flash or force. He was confident because he was one with God. There is no greater confidence than oneness with God. No matter what you face in life, if you are one with God, you can face it without a need to prove yourself to others, or uplift yourself through outer things. You do not need outer proof because inside of you is the unshakable, unbreakable, undeniable confidence in an unfailing God.

Second – A miracle happened that day when Jesus successfully sat on the unridden donkey and, third, that he could guide and ride on that unridden donkey through shouting crowds, pressing-in crowds, and crowds waving palm branches. If you want to startle and spook an untamed animal this would be a classic way to do this.

This clearly shows the power of the Christ over a lower animal nature that would ordinarily buck, and try to throw off its rider. in fear

We follow Jesus by allowing the Christ in us to ride over our own lower animal natures. The Christ within us can tame and bring peace to our wildest lower animal natures. Christ power can override, and successfully ride, that lower self through any harmful environment or negative peer group pressures that, before, would have swayed us back to a way of life that the lower self wallows in.

Do you have a bad habit that needs to be overridden? Then allow the Christ within you to override it. The Christ will successfully ride and tame addictions of the lower animal self to alcohol or drugs. The Christ will ride and tame angers or unforgiveness. No matter how the lower self in you defines itself, the Christ within you can override and tame its destructive ways.

No matter where you go, the Christ power goes with you, protecting you from future temptations. You will be blessed inside of yourself and by people all around you because you come in the name (which means nature) of the Lord.

I bless you on this Palm Sunday in the hope that you will follow Jesus in this way.

HOLD ME CLOSE, GOD

Dear God, I thank You for being with me at all times.
Hold me close today, this moment, tomorrow, and in the days to come, loving Presence of God.

Be with me through the night hours and be with me through the day.

I trust my future in Your care.

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: “I don’t believe that God exists.”

“Why do you say that?” asked the customer.

“Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn’t exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children. If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can’t imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.

The customer thought for a moment, but didn’t respond because he didn’t want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”

“How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber. “I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers do not exist because if they did there would not be people with long dirty hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.”

“Ah, but barbers do exist! What happens is that people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!” affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God too DOES exist! What happens is that people don’t come to God and do not look for God. That is why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”

This really puts things in perspective.

If you woke up this morning
with more health than illness,
you are more blessed than the
million who won’t survive the week.

If you have never experienced
the danger of battle,
the loneliness of imprisonment,
the agony of torture or
the pangs of starvation,
you are ahead of 20 million people
around the world.

If you attend a church meeting
without fear of harassment,
arrest, torture, or death,
you are more blessed than almost
three billion people in the world.

If you have food in your refrigerator,
clothes on your back, a roof over
your head and a place to sleep,
you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank,
in your wallet, and spare change
in a dish someplace, you are among
the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.

If your parents are still married and alive,
you are very rare,
especially in the United States.

If you hold up your head with a smile
on your face and are truly thankful,
you are blessed because the majority can,
but most do not.

If you can hold someone’s hand,

offer God’s healing touch.

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend … and to know the love of Christ … that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:17-19

You can use your power of your faith to change your life for the better.

Do you feel bound by some problem? Do you feel caught up in some circumstance over which you seem to have no control. Are you wondering which way to turn?

Regardless of your need or the circumstance, what is needed now is your positive faith in a good outcome.

You release any feeling of tension. You release any feeling of being bound or restricted. You replace these feelings with faith in God. Whatever the situation, you realize that it needs God’s blessing. You bless it through your prayers and your faith, and you know that only good can come out of it, because God is in it. You keep your faith centered in God, in the good, and a constructive and helpful course is open to you.

Today is the perfect time to use your power of positive faith. God helps you to be free from tension, stress, or strain. God helps you to feel relaxed.

If you have allowed yourself to get tense about some situation, give yourself the gift of a few moments to spend in quiet prayer and meditation, affirming your oneness with God. Spending time in prayer will make all the difference in your day. It is time now to be quiet, to relax, and to feel God’s blessing upon you and upon all that you do.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, I use the power of my faith to change my life for the better.
