This is God. Effective immediately, please be aware that there are changes YOU need to make in YOUR life. These changes need to be completed in order that I may fulfill My promises to you to grant you peace, joy and happiness in this life. I apologize for any inconvenience, but after all that I am doing, this seems very little to ask of you. I know, I already gave you the 10 Commandments. Keep them.

But follow these guidelines, also!

1. QUIT WORRYING
Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way?

2. PUT IT ON THE LIST
Something needs to be done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can’t help you until you turn it over to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all … God. I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.

3. TRUST ME
Once you’ve given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs. YOUR problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on My list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

4. LEAVE IT ALONE
Don’t wake up one morning and say, “Well, I’m feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here.” Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It’s simple. You gave Me your burdens and I’m taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my peace. Don’t you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.

5. TALK TO ME
I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I’m in control. But there’s one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don’t forget to talk to Me – OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family.

Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

6. HAVE FAITH
I see a lot of things from up here that you can’t see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I’m doing. Trust Me; you wouldn’t want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?

7. SHARE
You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who haven’t heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith with those who have none.

8. BE PATIENT
I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

9. BE KIND
Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences.

10. LOVE YOURSELF
As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by me for one reason only — to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to me. Don’t ever forget that!

CHILDREN’S SERMON:
One Easter Sunday morning during the children’s sermon, the minister reached into his bag of props and pulled out an egg. He pointed at the egg and asked “What’s in here?”. One little boy exclaimed “I know, PANTYHOSE”!

SUPPORT A FAMILY:
The future father-in-law asked, “Young man, can you support a family?” The surprised groom-to be replied, “Well, no. I was just planning to support your daughter. The rest of you will have to fend for yourselves.”

GRANDMA’S AGE:
Little Johnny asked his grandma how old she was. Grandma answered, “39 AND HOLDING.” Johnny thought for a moment and then said, “And how old would you be if you let go?”

FIRST TIME USHERS:
A little boy in church for the first time watched as the ushers passed around the offering plates. When they came near his pew, the boy said loudly, “DON’T PAY FOR ME, DADDY. I’M UNDER FIVE.”

PRAYERS:
The Sunday School teacher asked, “Now Johnny, tell me, do you say prayers before eating?” “NO SIR!” he replied. “We don’t have to ’cause my mom is a good cook!”

CLIMB THE WALLS:
“OH, I SURE AM HAPPY TO SEE YOU,” the little boy said to his grandmother on his mother’s side. “Now maybe daddy will do the trick he promised us.” The grandmother was curious. “What trick is that?” she asked. “I heard him tell mommy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit us again”.

PALM SUNDAY:
It was Palm Sunday and, because of a sore throat, five-year-old Johnny stayed home from church with a sitter. When the family returned home, they were carrying palm branches. Johnny asked what they were for. “People held them over Jesus’ head as He walked by.” “Wouldn’t you know it,” he fumed. “The one Sunday I don’t go to church, He shows up!”

THE MOOD RING:
My husband bought me a mood ring the other day. When I’m in a good mood it turns green. When I’m in a bad mood, it leaves a red mark on his forehead.

LIFE AFTER DEATH:
“Do you believe in life after death?” the boss asked one of his employees. “YES, SIR,” the new employee replied. “Well, then, that makes everything just fine,” The boss went on. “After you left early yesterday to go to your grandmother’s funeral, she stopped in to see you!”

Positive Daily Inspiration - November 5, 2022 - The Letter

“You are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you.”
Romans 8:9

My Uncle Ed was deceased over 20 years when his children found a hidden letter that he wrote them to encourage them in life. I think it is a profound gift to leave behind your positive thoughts.

We never know when this blessed journey will be over.

Life is filled with struggles, not just easy times. But with God we will find the way to success and happiness.

My own children have struggled with their own ups and downs.

I have been very blessed in my life, and my children automatically expect to have my success or better.

Facing disappointments, they have said to me, “But, you always said I was special.”

I have been encouraged to share this letter with you that I wrote to them a while back. I have other letters too, that I have written to them, but they probably will not find them until long after I am gone.

The Letter:

You ask – Are you special?

This is an important question.

I will be honest, with honesty taken from my own good and bad life experience of 65+ years.

You have the tremendous potential to be special.

You MUST be humble.

A person (even a king) is not born special. What makes that person special is determined by what they do for others instead of ONLY themselves. A person wholly focused on themselves lives in a hell of emptiness as a needy person.

Others will never be able to give you what you need.

Look at the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a person so self-absorbed that it fills his everyday experience. He must be a haunted man. Trying to fill his constant need becomes a hell on earth. The respect is not real, the power unstable. This is like trying to light a fire with wet wood, if it lights at all, it will go out.

If he simply cared more about his people than himself, life would become easily heaven on earth and he would be loved.

What defines you is how YOU TREAT OTHERS.

It is true some people will treat you unfairly in life – but this never defines you, and most often it is not about you. Most often lack of desired respect, or unfriendliness, from others defines a self-absorbed person totally oblivious to you.

You must be resilient, and never stalled by the negative actions of others.

Sometimes you just need to get out of the way.

Give first. Every day live life for others, beginning with what is reflected in the warmth of your words and expression on your face. Love others, and they will love you. People love you for the way YOU MAKE THEM feel. Truly love people, and they will love you back for it. Everyone needs love.

Anything that I have done that became special had its motivation and focus upon others, and not myself. Anything, that I have done JUST FOR MYSELF, being self-absorbed, was a miserable failure.

I have failed many times.

So, what was the secret of my success?

You’ve had a front row seat witnessing a miracle, but I cannot give you this through inheritance, you must claim this miracle directly for yourself.

My secret of success, I have asked God’s help. Repeatedly, over and over again, I have asked God to help me. When I listened, God came through, empowering me, balancing and giving me the way, and the means.

A person is a conduit, not a container of specialness.

God power – empowering through the human.

Ask God for help.

Don’t take yourself so seriously, take the Divine that infills you VERY seriously.

Remember to laugh, especially at yourself.

You were born into privilege because the miracle had already started. But position, or rank of power of another only gives you a higher launching pad to create your own service to others. A soul’s mission is individual – you cannot escape this. You cannot live in reflected light; you must create your own.

It is easy – because God is light. Each person must ask God individually. Life will be easy, and sometimes it will be hard – you will live in both areas at times. When in a hard area of life ask God for courage, energy, and fortitude. I promise your life will become easy and bright again as it has for me many, many times.

What is it up to you as a human to do?

Don’t drop the ball.

Maintenance, or maintain what is given to you.

You can have houses, new cars, ever-increasing success. Of their own they will rot and decay.

Everything requires maintenance. The delightful puppy, the beautiful plant.

Relationships require maintenance, like a plant, it dies without attention.

Homan’s law says: “What price – profit?

When looking at that shiny new object always ask yourself the question “What will it take to maintain this, and am I willing to make that commitment every day?”

If you’re not willing to work to maintain – don’t proceed. The possession will end up possessing you.

Do I think you’re special?

Yes, very.

I have seen it many times.

I think you are outstanding.

But what you have done so far is just the tip of the iceberg of what you are capable of doing with God.

I urge you to save this letter.

Read at different stages in your life, at times, you will be more open to this message.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me.” John 14:1

A man holds his head in anguish and says, “Oh my gosh!!! I’m broke! And I don’t get paid until the first week of next month.” When was the last time you made a similar statement or had a similar thought? Recently? A moment ago? What kind of feeling did this thought or statement generate? A hole in your stomach? Your chest tightening?

Breathe. Just thinking about lack, – not enough, – or limitation, in any form, is enough to make one’s blood pressure rise, their heart rate quicken, and to make one break out in a cold sweat. So, breathe … if any of these symptoms or other discomfort have taken over your body and mind, recently. God surrounds you with infinite abundance, always. Your work is recognizing each and every gift from God, accepting it, and receiving it.

In the past, your habit might have been to try to second-guess God, when you needed something, especially money. A need arises and, immediately, you might go through an entire litany of where the money would not come from, and where it could come from. In doing this, you would, mentally and spiritually, close doors that might otherwise have been opened to you. For example, if someone has a financial need, the litany might sound like this:

A woman shared her story, “Well, my mom will never loan me money. Dad’s broke all the time. Jim can’t give me money because he’s got so many debts. I could never ask Susan.” You get the picture. The list can go on and on.

“About four years ago, I learned a very valuable lesson about second-guessing. I had just learned, in a workshop, that second-guessing God was a very effective way of closing doors. The next time I had a large financial need, I decided not to second-guess God. It wasn’t easy. Those statements of closing doors tried so hard to squeeze into my thoughts. But I prevailed. I kept my mind quiet and centered on the God possibilities of my abundance and prosperity that I believe always surround me.

“To my amazement, the financial need was answered from a person and a situation that I would have told anyone was impossible, at any time! I had no idea that the financial answer was in that place, in that time, for that situation. Through this lesson, I learned that I do not second-guess God – for anything.” God is full of surprises. God is full of good. God is full of love.

When you have an issue where you feel lack, or limitation, let go of the feelings and thoughts of lack and limitation. Open your heart and your mind to the miracle of God’s good. Know that your life is an adventure, each and every day. Abundance and prosperity jump out at you, from every nook and cranny, from around each corner. Can you begin to count all the creative ideas that fly through your mind? Can you identify each possible resource that is available to you? Can you even begin to imagine all that is open to you? Life is ready for you to say “Yes!”

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Let us pray:

Dear God:
I open my heart and my mind to You, dear God, right now. Feelings of joy and thanksgiving, surge through my body, as my mind opens to Your good.

My being vibrates with God-like energy and thinking, attracting all that I need, want, and desire. My mind and heart are open to all that You give to me – creative ideas, resourceful people, and material goods.

I accept everything You put before me, God, knowing that You, right now, are leading me to my highest and greatest good.

I trust You, and I surrender to You, knowing that You see my way clearly – more clearly than I can see from my human mind. Thank you for guiding me with Your Divine wisdom and Your all-encompassing love.

In the nature and through the power of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Positive Daily Inspiration - November 3, 2022 - MENTAL HOUSE CLEANING

Jesus said in Matthew 23:26, ” … First make clean the inside of the cup and of the plate, so that the outside may become equally clean.”

I am sitting on the front porch of my home writing this and watching the trash truck drive by. At the least, I always wave and smile, and if I’m closer I thank these men and women personally. One of the most valuable things in our world is trash collection. It enables us to get rid of the debris that otherwise would overtake our lives. Can you imagine what our lives would be like without a way to dispose of that which is no longer useful, or needed?

I have been in countries where there is little trash collection and it soon overtakes the people. I was even in New York City one time, when they were having a trash strike, and the same quickly happened.

But what about the inside of ourselves?

I believe that the human mind should also have a trash pickup day – a time to review and to delete that which is no longer needed to be remembered on a daily basis.

I suggest we make a list of what is in our minds when we think of them. I suggest we also list our habits, and even yesterday’s wants. If it does not serve us well, today, let us go to God, and with God’s help, delete the old thoughts, ideas, and outdated dreams and take them out with the trash.

Place these on a piece of paper and make a decision to delete them from your life. This habit, this idea, this worry is no longer needed by you – and you trash it.

Placing these on the piece of paper and identifying them becomes a powerful proactive action, in which you take control of the old, with the new spiritual power given to you by God. You are giving up and letting go and letting God takeover. There is a powerful, spiritual, cleansing activity in and through you, as this takes place. You make the decision to remove it, permanently, from your life.

I have seen some people, after making their list, decide to burn it. Burning a list has no power of itself, other than it is showing to your own human mind that you and God are taking control and it is eliminated.

Your mind sometimes has to be shown, with the eyes, proof that you are taking control, and not the other way around. Many people live, thinking that they have no power over their own minds — this simply is not true.

Remember, it is not enough to just write your list, you must take out the trash, too, and allow it to be permanently removed. You must give it God.

With God’s help, the unwanted, the outdated is eliminated from your daily life.

Say aloud, as you do this, “This is no longer needed, wanted, or acceptable in my life and with God’s help, I turn it into trash – it is eliminated, permanently, from my daily experience. Following Jesus Christ, I now walk on, away from the experience because this is, right now, eliminated, permanently, from my life!”

I believe that we should do a mental housecleaning often. We clean our houses, we clean our businesses, we clean our environment and yet, many never clean the inside of themselves. To live a spiritual life, we must clean the inside of our minds otherwise, daily, in our thinking, we have to walk through the debris of a lifetime.

The spiritual person must empty him or herself in order to be full.

Every time we shower and groom in the morning, we are removing a thin layer of dust and debris. When we go through the cleansing activity of prayer to God, we can remove mountains of old, outdated debris that has created a mental compost that we are not even aware of, and yet affects every single moment of every day in our lives.

It helps, too, when an old thought comes up, to think in the moment, “I need to trash that!” When you do that, you are taking the reins of your life.

Sometimes, we can be surprised by the old thoughts at creep up. You can bury items at a trash dump and they stay buried, but old thoughts are like live worms that reappear by wiggling their way to the surface. You can’t bury a worm because it will always come to the surface again. To get rid of the worm you have to take it out with the trash immediately upon finding the worm.

Like the worm, old thoughts are alive in us, and they live the in the thoughts about what they were created to think about. Did you ever think that you were not good enough? If you did, that thought is still in there, somewhere, unless you have trashed it. Only when we get rid of the old thoughts that we no longer need and want, can we think the thoughts and believe the prayers that we choose to want.

Jesus Christ once said, let all your words and thoughts be either YEA YEA, or NAY NAY. This means that as you do an inventory of yourself, you either say yes, or no, to thoughts and actions.

This is spiritual addition or subtraction the can be the tool to a cleansed life.

So, as you make your list, and put it in the trash, sit on the front porch and watch the trash truck taking away your old thoughts and opinions. Don’t forget to smile and wave, as they take the old, useless, unnecessary away.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

My God and my strength, I pray that I may possess that expectancy which comes in joyous hope and have the endurance that is controlled by courage and energy. Grant in the future that I may be less concerned about my living and more focused for what I make of my life.

Positive Daily Inspiration - November 2, 2022 - FINDING HOPE

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain.” Hebrews 6:19 God is a God of second chances, and we believe in second chances.

This Positive Daily Inspiration has been blessed in prayer to fill you with new hope.

In Hebrews the Bible promises, “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.”

We are all anchored to something, many people are anchored to fear and worry, and even on glorious days they are only lifted above that for a few hours, then the old anchor pulls them down again. But that anchor is in the human mind, not in the soul, the soul knows better, for it is spiritual in origin, a child of God. There is a natural hope that sees beyond appearances in the soul.

“A hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain.”

When we hope, we enter the realm of true worship of God, we go to the inner shrine of the soul where we connect with God, behind the curtains of everyday life. There we find that what we believe in, totally, manifests on the other side of the curtain – our outer life.

The anchor in any soul that dispels fear and doubt is an awareness of the presence of God. Knowing that the presence and power of God is within you at all times instills you with hope. Because you have hope, you are motivated to prepare the way for God’s good things to happen in your life.

Hope may be a gentle nudge that guides you in the direction that you need to take. Whether the situation is one in which there is a need for healing, harmony in a troubled relationship, guidance, or increased abundance – hope lifts you above the outer appearance of things, to the inner realization that, “with God, all things are possible.”

Nothing can extinguish the presence and power of God that glows with and within each of us. Through positive prayer and meditation, we support God’s plan of good in our life and get to watch it manifest with our eyes. There is a great longing in the heart of all humanity to know and feel the presence of God. A lack of hope dwells only in a mind that does not dwell enough on God’s help. In truth, you can never be separated from God, but still there is a feeling that connection must be made; there is a longing for a reunion. Often, people go to great efforts to fill this longing in outer ways.

The answer lies in returning our thoughts to God in prayer.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, I pray that I have a steadfast anchor in my soul that will not allow me to stray too far.
I pray that I will never drift over into the waters of uncertainty and doubt.
May I know with a positive knowing that You are always with me.
May I have a hope in me that springs eternal.
Dear God, Your hope fills my mind and heart.
I respond to that hope now.
My life sings with joy, and I feel the warmth of Your presence clothing me softly, tenderly.
You know my hopes, my dreams, and my needs.
I turn them over to You.
I sit in prayer so that I may silently and spiritually be filled to the brim again with Your hope.
Each day as I pray, I am more aware of my oneness with You.

Prayer is the language of Spirit. It does not know time or space.

As you pray, you pray for more than just yourself. You pray for those who are looking to us for prayer. We become active in the ways of prayer that go out from where we are and cover people with an umbrella of God’s help.

The spirit of God expresses itself through you. In this prayer time, you are able to relax. You are able to release any thought or feeling that interferes with your awareness of the spirit of God.

As you do, remember what it says within the Holy Bible: “A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you.” The spirit of God fills your hearts and minds, making you a vessel–a wonderful, unique vessel fulfilling a sacred purpose. As a vessel, you open yourself to the inpouring and outpouring of the spirit of God.

You are open to wisdom, to life, and to abundance in this silent time of prayer …

There is a peace that is with you. It is the peace of God. It is a pure, unconditional peace that cleanses away fear and unforgiveness.

We are serene … still … as you hear the world

“Peace … peace … peace … Peace, be still.”

Rest in the silence of prayer, in the peace of God …

The Spirit of God establishes peace within you and in all areas of your life.

You think now about wisdom and guidance. You allow wisdom to fill your mind. God is wisdom. In daily choices or in major life decisions, Divine ideas come forth from the Spirit of God. These ideas, the quiet hand of God playing the instruments of our minds and hearts, guide us in the path of right thinking. We accept these wonderful ideas and give them full expression in our thoughts, words, and actions. No matter what the need, God’s almighty wisdom has the answer for us. We attune ourselves to the wisdom of God and are guided in perfect ways. You pray now for wisdom and understanding for yourself and for others.

In the silence of prayer …

The Spirit of God fills you with wisdom and understanding. You make right choices.

Having affirmed guidance for ourselves and others, we now gently shift our attention to healing. We know that life abides within our body temples, for God is life.

In the Holy Bible it states: “Do you now know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

This mighty healing power fills every atom, every cell, every organ and tissue, and directs every function and activity. It knows exactly what to do and how to do it. This mighty healing power is at work right now. You are strengthened, nourished, and sustained by the Spirit of God. You are restored to wholeness and health according to the Divine plan.

Know this now, in the silence of prayer …

This Truth of God permeates every cell of your body. It is the absolute Truth of you. The Spirit of God is mighty within you and fortifies your body temple.

Now we gently move our thoughts to ideas of prosperity. Abundance fills our lives. God is supply. The spirit of God within us is the source of abundance. As we pray, we give thanks for every expression of God’s loving, providing spirit–for friends and family, for flowers and birds, for sunshine and rain, for the busyness of each day and the quiet of each night.

We pray now for a greater awareness of the bountiful goodness of God for ourselves and for others as we take this Truth into our hearts: The Spirit of God urges me to succeed. All that I need is provided.

In prayer, we are open to the Mind of God. We are open to the fulfillment of every need–peace, joy, health, prosperity, guidance, freedom. We accept all that is ours through the precious spirit of God within us. With hearts overflowing, we say, “Thank You, God!” From this place and this time of stillness, we have a new power to go forth, knowing that we are bountifully cared for because the spirit of God abides within us.

The light of God surrounds you;
The love of God enfolds you;
The power of God protects you;
The presence of God watches over you.
Wherever you are, God is!

Does there seem to be something missing from your life? Is there something missing that no material possession or personal achievement can bring you? This something could very well be your participation in close and empowering communion with God.

If you do not already do so, begin to talk with God in the way you feel most comfortable. Talk to God as you would a close friend.

Put away all thoughts about what you should say and in the silence of your own being, in prayer, begin to talk to God as though you are sharing with your most dear and trusted friend.

Perhaps you desire to reestablish the habit of talking to God so that you can feel at one with God. You may choose to begin by giving thanks – for something refreshing to your soul – or for a healing. Know without doubt that a sincere talk with God will bring new understanding to your life.

In the quiet of prayer, you relax. You let go of any need to force people or events to conform to your personal human will. Instead, you choose to let the power of God move in and through you, to bring about the perfect outworking of each situation.

You know that it is not by personal might or power that anything is lastingly established; the Spirit of God that dwells with you does the work. Relaxed in mind and body, you stay focused on this realization.

Your prayer times fill you with joy and rejuvenate you. When you relax in prayer, there is never force or strain; rather, there is happiness and fulfillment that is truly spiritual. This happiness and fulfillment is much stronger than temporary human happiness. These positive qualities are reflected in all your human actions.

You are at peace with God and with yourself. A perfect work is done through the Spirit of God and you soon find everything that, as if a moment ago, was missing.

You are fulfilled as you faithfully work on your spiritual development. You do your best to put into practice God’s ways in your own life. And then, silently and continually, you will be moving and progressing toward a spiritually enriched life.

Seeming barriers that seem to be stopping you from moving forward are dissipated and removed. With God’s power, you will no longer allow anything to limit you and your future.

It is not necessary to know exactly what is holding you back. You have to be willing to pray and to accept a new way of life from God. Prayer cleanses you, completely. Prayer opens you up to the purifying spiritual presence that will restore what is lost in your life.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Nothing is lost in Spirit, anything seemingly lost can be found in God. I turn to You, dear God, to find what seems to be lacking in my life. Complete me, make me whole.

Years ago, Ann Landers had readers submit funny stories about their children reciting prayers, and saying the Pledge Of Allegiance.

From New York:
When my twin daughters were young, I taught them to say this prayer before going to bed. As I listened outside their door, I could hear them say, “Give us this steak and daily bread, and forgive us our mattresses.” My husband and I always had a good laugh over this. That was over 50 years ago, and the memory still remains in my heart.

From San Francisco:
When I was a child, I learned this prayer as “Our Father, who are in Heaven, Howard be thy name.” I always thought that was God’s real name.

Groton, Mass.:
My mother spent her early childhood saying, “Hail Mary, full of grapes.”

Missoula, Mont.:
My son, who is in nursery school, said, “Our Father, who art in Heaven, how didja know my name?”

Uniontown, Ohio:
I remember thinking this prayer was “Give us this day our jelly bread.”

Covina, Calif.:
I recall reading something years ago about the Pledge of Allegiance. Some child thought it began, “I led the pigeons to the flag.”

Cleveland, Ohio:
“When I was little, I often wondered who Richard Stands was. You know: “I pledge allegiance to the flag … and to the republic for Richard Stands.”

Schenectady, N.Y.:
I once knew a child whose favorite Sunday school song was “Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear.”

Tampa, Fla.:
When my husband was 6 years old, he thought a certain prayer was “He suffered under a bunch of violets.” The real words were “under Pontius Pilate,” but at that age, he didn’t know better. To this day, we still snicker in church whenever that prayer is read.

Lake Forest Park, Wash.:
When I was a little girl, we sang a song in Sunday school about Noah. Part of the chorus was “And the rains came down, and the floods came up.” We lived next door to a couple of charming little girls who always sang this song while playing in their garden. Their words were, “And the rains came down, and the spuds came up.”

Oak Harbor, Wash.:
When my older brother was very young, he always walked up to the church altar with my mother when she took communion. On one occasion, he tugged at her arm and asked, “What does the priest say when he gives you the bread?” Mom whispered something in his ear. Imagine his shock many years later when he learned that the priest doesn’t say, “Be quiet until you get to your seat.”

Grand Junction, Colo.:
When I was younger, I believed the line was “Lead a snot into temptation.” I thought I was praying for my little sister to get into trouble.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

On this day of worship, I take time for my busy life to slow down, to reflect, and to worship You. I give thanks that I can worship at the church of my choice. I pray this day that I go beyond just attending services, to an everlasting spiritual experience reassuring me of Your ever-abiding presence.

Below, are 43 natural highs in life. Just 43, compiled by someone else. By the end of Saturday I ask you to add to this list with your own natural highs. I ask you to have at least 50 total by bedtime. Just jot them down. I’m only asking you to think of seven things in addition to the list that make your soul and heart smile. If you are smart, you will keep adding to this list in an ongoing way, like we urge people to do in our Day by Day Gratitude to God System.

Natural Highs

1. Falling in love.
2. Laughing so hard your face hurts.
3. A hot shower.
4. No lines at the supermarket.
5. A special glance.
6. Getting mail.
7. Taking a drive on a pretty road.
8. Hearing your favorite song on the radio.
