I believe in goal setting. I write down what I want to accomplish and keep a positive attitude because I know with God, we can do all things. Nothing is impossible to God and a willing person.

When there are goals, you want to reach, you can rely on God to give you the wisdom needed to achieve them. As you trust in God, you have increased confidence in your abilities, and you know that you can succeed. With faith and determination, you use your God-given powers and abilities in constructive and fulfilling ways.

As you keep yourself centered in God, you are able to keep your thoughts and emotions composed. You think clearly and express your ideas in effective ways. With God’s help, you make wise use of your time and energy so that you can accomplish all that needs to be done by you easily and successfully.

You are important to God and needed in God’s plan. Always God will bless you when you are moving ahead in the direction of bringing God’s good to yourself and others. You depend on God’s guidance and know that ways to achieve your highest aspirations are being revealed to you.

With God’s help, your thoughts change from “I want to be” to “I can be” and finally, to the realization “I am!”

In James 1:22 our Bible states, “Be doers of the word.” We are to put into action, in our own lives, the things that Jesus said that we could do, and be. Have you ever thought, after reading a “Positive Daily Inspiration” lesson: “This is just what I was thinking! Why can’t I put my ideas into words like this?” I am here today to tell you that – you can!

I am suggesting that today you try writing down the ideas that come to you as you think about your own special needs and desires for prayer. Write a positive prayer affirmation for yourself. Not one that is filled with doubts and negativity. Remember you are relying upon God, and you are writing for yourself a positive statement of God’s truth.

You will write a God-truth message for your very own self, to your very own self.

If there is a healing need, write out a simple healing statement; and add it to your thoughts about prayer, healing, faith, and God’s will for you.

Example: God’s will for me is absolute ever-increasing health. I have faith in God’s healing power now!

If there is a need for prosperity, harmony, renewed relationship, or guidance, formulate a positive prayer statement; write a few words that express your thoughts about God’s power to fulfill the need. Find the Bible verse that you like, one that seems to be just for you today.

Putting your faith into words and forming positive God centered goals to use in your prayer time will call forth the quickened activity of answered prayer and give you a true feeling of spiritual achievement.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Today, dear God I place my burdens in Your hands.
I look to You for help.
I admit I cannot do it alone.
I am ready to receive Divine assistance.
I am very appreciative of the miracles that
I am about to receive.

LOWERING YOUR ANXIETY SCREEN

“Do not be anxious.”
Matthew 6:31

Are you being stopped from living a full life by your own anxieties?

An old friend of mine, Stretton Smith, in one of his writings, recalled a famous episode of Star Trek. Captain Kirk and Spock were traveling through a tunnel when they saw some of their crew at the other end being tortured by the enemy. They rushed through the tunnel to rescue their friends, when suddenly Kirk was stopped by an invisible screen. He couldn’t see what was blocking him, and he couldn’t get through. He looked like a mime washing a window. But Spock had walked right through! He cried out to Spock, asking how Spock got through, but he, Kirk, could not?

Spock said that it was an anxiety screen and that Kirk’s emotions, his anxiety, prevented him from getting through. If Kirk would lower the anxiety screen, he would be able to walk through. So, Kirk stood back and imagined the invisible anxiety screen in front of him being lowered — and Kirk, free of all anxieties, stepped over the screen, and joined Spock. They went on to rescue their friends.

The next time that you want to do something, but you find that you are being stopped by your own anxieties, try this mental technique. Stop for a moment and imagine lowering your anxiety screen, and stepping over it, walking forward to claim your God given good.

Stretton goes on to recall his own story. In Stretton’s words, “I wasn’t very happy where I was staying in Hawaii. The next morning, I walked down to the Sheraton-Waikiki, a very expensive hotel, stood in the lobby, lowered the screen of anxiety in front of me, stepped over it – and walked up to the reservation clerk. I confidently asked him if they had a room for the night.

“The Clerk said, ‘Yes sir, we do. Mauka view at $80.’

“I said, ‘I’ll take it.’

“He said, ‘Oh, it’s too early to check-in. Please come back at 2 PM, when it will be available. You can register then.’

“At 2 o’clock, I returned to the Sheraton-Waikiki. I stood in the lobby and lowered my screen of anxiety, then stepped up to the desk. The reservation clerk said, ‘Oh, Mr. Smith that room is not going to be available after all. Let me see what I can do.’

“She came back in a few minutes and asked, ‘One night only?’

“I said ‘Yes.’

“She said, ‘Fine, the room will be $80.’ She wrote up the slip and handed me the key – which I did not look at until I was on the elevator alone. Then I opened my hand.

“By lowering my screen of anxiety, I was open to my good.”

Most people are afraid to move forward in life because they expect the worst. I have counseled with many who have been afraid to ask people that they truly cared for, for a date or they did not ask for a job that they really wanted, or the raise that they truly deserved because of their own anxiety. Taking time to lower the screen of anxiety and walking forward knowing that God goes ahead of you to prepare your good will change not only your day, but it could change your life.

“Cast ALL your anxieties upon Him, for He cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Sometimes we can learn a great deal from people that we do not wish to copy. An example of this was Ima Whiner, a lady that sometime, somewhere got off track.

She complained her way through every day, whining those things were never right, and never would be. Ima could never accept that things could get better, and over time she didn’t have a willingness to accept God’s good.

To begin to experience a better life, you have to be willing to give up every heavy and depressing thought of the past. You have to be ready to yield every thought that would bind you to the limited beliefs of yesterday. You have to cast from your mind every thought that would hold you in bondage to the limitations of the past AND GO TO GOD.

You must cease to entertain thoughts of disharmony, hate, lack and fear. You are no longer held hostage to beliefs that would cause you to lose sight of God’s truth. You give up thought that would bind you to limitations. You recognize no outer thing or circumstance has the power to limit or to affect your ongoing as a child of God. God is bigger than your problems!

Today, you advance in the might of God by being WILLING to claim your spiritual heritage.

You greet this day as giving you an opportunity to receive new blessings from God. You listen to the truth that Jesus speaks in your soul and rise in the glory of your spiritual power. You proclaim your world as subject only to the will and the work of Christ.

You no longer look upon yourself as created in the image and likeness of imperfection and failure. You know the truth that you are created in the image and likeness of God.

You greet life today with the conviction and the assurance that God is the all-providing, all-pervading, all-reigning presence of good in your life right now. You believe in God’s omnipotent power. You acknowledge God as the one presence and one power in your life. Going forth, armed with the conviction of your oneness with God, you face life with new courage and conviction.

You live in faith, untouched by negative belief, unaffected by ignorance, and immune to fear. You live in God’s kingdom of peace, love, justice, and beauty.

You are WILLING this day to bring forth God’s high ideals. God renews and lifts your vision, to be centered on the spiritual height from which comes true illumination. You agree to lift your vision to those heights from which you are illuminated by the light of God. Guidance and light are shed on your path.

You go forth into your week radiating God’s light and truth to others. Jesus said, “Let your light shine.”

Yes, the Lord will continually give what is good, but in our free-will we to be WILLING to accept that God-given good.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, I pray for a strong resilient spirit.
I pray that I am the type of person that rises to the occasion.
I pray that I feel a surge of faith and trust. I pray that I have the ability to cope and to know with You there is nothing to fear.

May I feel Your assurance.

One of the most powerful prayers that I know of is:

Here I am Lord, use me.

Everywhere you go, it will change the place you stand because you make yourself useful.

It also makes life more of an adventure to not be just a bystander. To say to God – Put me in the game. I’m ready to serve You.

I give all the credit to God, but I also take some of the credit for showing up and allowing God to come through me. I must admit that that was scary at first, until I could totally trust and rely upon old reliable – God!

I believe the truest success in life is found by discovering that you can’t do it alone. The truest path to success is spiritual surrender.

I was a very willful young man who pushed and shoved to get to the top of the food chain, and what a discovery it was to find that most in life was missing, and that I felt empty.

There’s an old quote that says, “80% of success is just showing up.” I would say that 100% of success is just showing up before God.

The tiny boy came, eyes shining, to his mother and handed her three wilting dandelions. He was saying without words, “Here I am, Lord. Express Your Spirit through me as love.”

That’s what a minister does; that’s what any person does who shows up for God. God can change even a wilting dandelion into the most magnificent gift of beauty.

A teenager sat studying the want ads in Craig’s List. Reading an ad that interested her, she made an appointment for a job interview. She was saying, in effect, “Here I Am, Lord. Express Your Spirit through me as wisdom and guidance.”

A retired couple, discussing their need to give of their time and energy, to be a part of some constructive, hit upon the idea of applying to a local hospital as substitute grandparents for little patients who were far away from home. This couple was surely saying, “Here We Are, Lord. Express Your Spirit through us as compassion and joy.”

And how about you? You can be certain of being able to give full, free expression to all that is within you as you show up for God. You will discover true success as you spiritually surrender.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, today I follow You.
I give You the ultimate offering – I give myself.
I pray that You will use me.
Use my mind, infill it with Your ideas.
Use my arms, infill them with Your strength.
Use my heart, infill it with Your love.
Use my today, infill it with Your purpose, and make it worthwhile.
Use my life, infill it, so that we can make a positive difference for all.

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine. I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Wheel of Fortune’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, “How about going to lunch in a half hour?”

She would gasp and stammer, “I can’t. I have clothes in the washer. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday. I had a late breakfast. It looks like rain.” And my personal favorite: “It’s Monday.” She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together. Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.

We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Stevie toilet trained.

We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet.

We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer.

One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of “I’m going to,” “I plan on,” and “Someday when things are settled down a bit.”

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now … go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to … … not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, whom would you call and what would you say?

And why are you waiting?

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry-go-round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground.

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

Do you run through each day on the fly?

When you ask, “How are you?” Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?

Ever told your child, “We’ll do it tomorrow.” And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say “Hi?”

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift … . Thrown away … Life is not a race.

Take it slower.

Hear the music before the song is over.

In preparing for prayer, I invite you to become still. If you have anything in your hand that might be a discomfort, please put it aside. I invite you to become still and relaxed. Relax in the seat you are sitting in. As we come to this special time of the day, realize that this is your time:

A gift from God.

This is the time that we put aside all our cares of life and we become centered in that spiritual oneness with God.

God is the precious, powerful, imminent Source that is always with you. That love of God is a refuge to which we can go to regain our strength in a time of need. As we come to this new time of the year where new beginnings are made, we renew ourselves in the knowing that we are one with the One, that one Presence and that one Power of God.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Jesus said, “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” So, today, we rejoice in that oneness with the Christ presence. That presence that was in Jesus Christ is also the same presence that is active in our lives, this morning, in the depths of our hearts and souls.

Now, as you relax further in a deeper state of consciousness, I invite you to let go and let that Presence be your counselor, your physician, and your helper. As we go through our quest of life, this timeless advancing of our souls, we are free. We are unlimited. Through God, with us RIGHT NOW, we have the strength to overcome any challenges of the appearances of the outside world.

So now, let us take a moment to be in the silence of prayer with God …

Dear God, we give thanks that we can come to You, anytime of the day or night. We like to go to the top. We are thankful, dear God, that You have an open-door policy and that Your door is always open to us, day or night. We give thanks that we can come to You at any moment, at any time of need. We pray this knowing our oneness with You.

In the name and through the power of Jesus Christ … Amen.

If there is one thing that I’m known for it is my enthusiasm. I wasn’t always an enthusiastic person. It is a trait that I have worked hard to cultivate. It has brought me more happiness than any other single thing that I have done.

Do not focus on what’s wrong. Focus on what’s right and get excited about it!

No one wants to feel dull or lethargic. Enthusiasm is contagious. If you had to choose a person to join you in your work or leisure time, you would look for a person who is enthusiastic about life and living.

Below you will find the enthusiasm prayer. As you affirm it aloud you will feel a new aliveness. Speaking such words is like turning the ignition key of your car and feeling the motor activated. Such words, spoken in faith, provide you with new energy and move you into constructive action. Let the realization of this prayer fill your mind and you will be conscious of the new surge of enthusiasm and energy.

You may not be feeling enthusiastic in the present moment. When I do not feel enthusiastic, I generate up. Turn your thoughts to joy and enthusiasm and think of yourself as enthusiastic and as a radiating center of the enthusiasm to your world. Your outlook cannot help but brighten.

You have God’s joy and enthusiasm in your heart. These qualities are as much a part of your makeup as God’s life, light, and peace. As God’s beloved child, you can be filled with joy and enthusiasm despite conditions in the outer.

You can have both joy and enthusiasm because they go hand in hand; when you have the one, you usually have the other. As you stare up your enthusiasm for life and living, your capacity for joy is also stirred up. Today you decide to bring God’s joy and enthusiasm into your every activity, and you know that such an attitude blesses you and everyone that makes up your world.

I decree in the name of Jesus Christ that I am alive, alert, awake, joyous and enthusiastic about life.
I am enthusiastic about life.
I am right now a radiating center of God’s joy.
My life is blossoming with God’s good, and I am thrilled to the core of my being with what is happening right now. Positive new energy comes to my body and mind as I focus on my exciting life.
Through God’s touch and empowerment, I generate personal power to appreciate my life and the people in it.
I smile because I am smiling within.
I laugh because I am laughing within, from the ecstasy of the joyous presence of God.
I pray that my enthusiasm about life will be contagious.
I pray that I can change a person and his/her sad mood by the energy of my presence.
I have an energy that is higher than my own human energy.
It uplifts me and it has the power to uplift others.
I do not hold my light under a bushel, rather I let it shine, eliminating darkness. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” I follow Jesus by consenting to become that light consistently in my life through God’s empowerment of enthusiasm in me.
Today I am enthusiastic about life!

In Isaiah 35:10 the Bible states the truth about you, “Everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
