Tuesday Prayer and Meditation

“And God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said … Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart.”
1 Kings 3:5-9

As we begin our time of prayer and meditation, I ask you to simply be spiritually aware of yourself and your body. What is going on in your body now? What does it feel like? Be aware of your mind. What thoughts are walking, floating, racing through in your mind? Be aware of your soul.

Be aware, and recognize that right where you are, God is.

Right where you are, God help is available.

Allow yourself to feel the power of God.

Right where I am, God is – the allness of God is your help in every need.

You continue in an awareness of God, and you add to it the awareness of constant love, help, and reassurance. You notice a restful change that begins to take place when you take your thought. When you let thoughts of God become dominant and supreme in your consciousness, things begin to spiritually change – not outside of you in the outer world, but within you. Feel that happening in you now.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Right where you are, God is.

Feel the power of this prayer as it goes deep within you. Right where you are, God is. You can feel the invitation of God calling you to be more completely, more deeply, aware, and alive in that Presence that goes beyond all human understanding and explanation.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Right where I am, God is. Feel it, rest in the Presence of God.

Feel the invitation as it leads you into the silence, into that deep rich quiet there there is no longer any separation or obstacle between you and a complete awareness of God.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Right where I am, God is. Focus this thought now; let it take you into the silence.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Out of the silence, your awareness reaches to thoughts of people you love – people who are near and dear to you; people whom you would bless in this time of prayer. Hold with me the highest thought for anyone who comes to mind: Right where you are, God is …

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Watch your thought about that person or situation change. Feel the sense of peace that passes human understanding as we hold the thought: Right where you are, God is …

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Now, even as we begin to turn our thoughts back to this moment and the work that is ours to do this day, the awareness of God stays with us. We are, vibrantly and acutely, aware of God with every breath we take and every thought we think.

Right where we are, God is.

Thank You, God, for all Your gifts, but most especially, for the glorious gift of the awareness of Your presence.

Thank You, God!

Robert Frost said, “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. It goes on.”

You are not locked into yesterday unless you choose to be. God is a god of second chances and new beginnings. Freedom and discovery are avenues that are open to you when you acknowledge that you are a new creation in Christ. Following Jesus Christ you are aware of the Christ Spirit within you, supplying you with the resolution, wisdom, and enthusiasm you need to make any changes or alterations in your attitudes or habits.

The worst thing that anyone could ever do to you is to condemn you to always stay exactly the same. You can never stay the same, even if it may seem that you do. You are constantly being renewed whether you cooperate with the process, or not. When you do cooperate by being open to change and adjustments you will find that you enjoy being a new you. You are open to new adventures and learning. Life becomes exciting.

If you, or others, have found fault with things that you have done, you take heart, for you are changing and are a new creation in Christ. You are excited about life and filled with hope. You realize the truth of God that you can do better and be better as you give expression to the Christ presence. Jesus urges you to become a new human being.

Following God, you discover God’s grace as an active presence in every area of your life. Wherever you go, whatever you do, God’s grace is with you giving you the energy and courage for the change. God will uplift and sustain you along the avenue to the new you.

You are a beloved child of God. God plays an active part in everything you do. When you accept Divine life and God’s help in your daily living, you also accept Divine Grace into your life. You receive the guidance you need to take charge of your life and live up to your highest potential. If you should make a mistake, God shows you how to turn from the mistake into another path to your good.

Everything you do and receive will be a direct result of the activity of God in your life. You receive the keys to the kingdom of abundant living. You use these keys to leave the past behind and enter into a happier, more fulfilling life.

When you choose to become a new creation in Christ, God’s blessings upon blessings are heaped upon you.

The Statue of Liberty in New York is beautiful. There is quite a story behind it. When the famous sculptor Bartholdi gave his time to create the Statue of Liberty, he also gave of his time to raise the $4 million needed to build the statue. People from all over France provided the money for the statue.

Of course, raising that kind of money, there were a lot of opinions of what the statue should look like. Many came to him and said, “Well, the statue should embrace the face of a super-hero and the arms of someone totally loving and a body that radiates freedom out to all the people coming in.” He had people say that the statue should depict figures of thought which are grand in themselves.

Bartholdi said his most difficult task was searching for a model for his statue. It took many years until he finally found her in his own kitchen. The Statue of Liberty is a model of his own mother. He said, “In her is everything that I want to convey to the people coming to a free land to live a new life.”

Wilfred Funk, the famous dictionary and encyclopedia publisher picked ten words that he said meant the most to people in this country. One of the ten words is ‘mother.’ “It is the most revered word of all,” he said. ‘Alone’ is the second word, the most tragic. ‘Forgotten’ is the saddest word. ‘Love’ is the most beautiful word. ‘Revenge’ is the cruelest word. ‘Friendship’ is the warmest word. ‘No’ is the coldest word. ‘Tranquility’ is the most peaceful of the ten words.

One of the most famous mothers in history was ‘Old Mother Goose’. That’s right. She was real. Her maiden name was Foster. She was born near Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1665. She married Isaac Goose who died years later, leaving her a widow with ten children.

With ten children she needed lots of stories to amuse them, (since in those days there was no television and no Playstations or Xbox). Later on, her son-in-law published the poetry and nursery rhymes she created and it made her famous.

A husband was once admiring his wife. He said, “My, I marvel at your patience! You have told that child the same thing twenty times!”

The mother looked fondly at the child and said, “Had I spoken the matter only nineteen times, I should have lost all my labor.”

SATURDAY INSPIRATION

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided to do something different. He called young people in the kingdom together one day.

He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you.” The children were shocked, but the emperor continued.

“I am going to give each one of you a seed today – one very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor.”

One boy, named Ling, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it, carefully. Every day, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown.

After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by.

Still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Ling didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by–still nothing in Ling’s pot.

He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn’t say anything to his friends, however. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But his mother asked him to be honest about what happened. Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace.

When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful–in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other children laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, “Hey, nice try.”

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. “My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown,” said the emperor. “Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!”

All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified.

“The emperor knows I’m a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!”

When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name.

“My name is Ling,” he replied.

All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd,

“Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!”

Ling could not believe it. Ling could not even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?

Then the emperor said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds that would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!”

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.
If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.
If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.
If you plant perseverance, you will reap victory.
If you plant consideration, you will reap harmony.
If you plant hard work, you will reap success.
If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.
If you plant openness, you will reap intimacy.
If you plant patience, you will reap improvements.
If you plant faith, you will reap miracles.
But if you plant dishonesty, you will reap distrust.
If you plant selfishness, you will reap loneliness.
If you plant pride, you will reap destruction.
If you plant envy, you will reap trouble.
If you plant laziness, you will reap stagnation.
If you plant bitterness, you will reap isolation.
If you plant greed, you will reap loss.
If you plant gossip, you will reap enemies.
If you plant worries, you will reap wrinkles.
If you plant mistakes, you will reap guilt.

So, be careful what you plant, now; it will determine what you will reap tomorrow. The seeds you now scatter will make life worse or better for you or for the ones who will come after you. Yes, someday, you will enjoy the fruits or you will pay for the choices you plant today.

Believe or not, it’s up to you.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear Lord, help me to be an honest person no matter how hard that may seem in the moment. Help me to be truthful even if it is embarrassing. Help me to show to others that I am honorable.

Success comes at a price. Are you willing to pay the price?

The author of the popular cartoon comic strip “Ziggy” recognized this when he drew the following scene:

As our friend Ziggy, in his little automobile, drove down a road, he saw two signs. The first stated in bold letters, “The Road to Success.” Further down the road stood a second sign. It read, “Prepare to Stop for Tolls.”

People think that success is the opposite of failing, but that is not a complete picture. A runner may come in last, but if she beats her best record, she succeeds!

True success is becoming a better person than you were yesterday. Success can bring outer and inner good. Permanent success comes from faith in God.

Norman Vincent Peale once told the story, “Recently I dedicated a Chapel in a large industrial plant in Philadelphia. On the day of dedication, the exquisite Chapel was filled with a large gathering of the leaders of the city to honor the company’s founder, Michael Cardone. He and his wife overcame poverty to create the huge factory now employing many hundreds of persons.

These capable people had their day when the idea came to them to redo or reclaim old automobile parts and accessories, from windshield wipers to motors. Many persons would not have seen the astonishing extent to which this idea could be developed, and few would have undertaken it. But the Cardone’s had faith, they believed that God was guiding them. They seized the day and went with the idea of making new windshield wipers and new motors out of old ones. Today Cardone Industries, a complex of buildings with the chapel for the worship of God at the center, is one of the outstanding examples of the American system of free enterprise. And it is an example of two believing people who lived by the truth, “Today is yours, seize it.”

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

This week I seize God’s success in my life. I ask for God’s direction and guidance. I place God at the center of my life. I walk ahead with hope and conviction in a positive future. I do not limit myself by my past failures. I ask God’s healing from the scars of troubled times. I pray for God’s motivation, and leading hand, to guide me in the direction of success. If I am on a road of failure, I consent in my free-will to new guidance and direction leading me to the permanent road of success. I begin today because I refuse to put my God-success off any longer. If I need to reinvent my life, I ask you God to reinvent my direction and reinvent me equipping me to travel the journey ahead of me so that I can seize my success NOW.

Dear God, I ask for Your guidance and direction in my life leading me to more than temporal success. I am fatigued by the roller coaster of the ups and downs, I now follow You. I ask for the path to permanent success.

HOW WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Fast question, answer with all your sincerity –

A company was hiring a new employee. A part of the selection process was to answer the following question in writing:

You are driving your car in a dangerous storm at night. You are passing in front of a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:

– an old lady who seems to be near death
– a doctor who saved your life in the past
– the woman/man of your dreams
– You only can take ONE person in your car.
– Which would you choose?

Please justify your reply, and think, before continuing reading.

This is a type of personality test. Each reply has its reasons.

Would you drive the old lady? She is dying; you could drive her to the hospital.

Would you drive the doctor? He saved your life in the past. This would be the perfect possibility to repay what he did for you. However, you still could repay in a future occasion.

Would you drive the man/woman of your dreams? If you let this possibility pass it may not come again.

The candidate who was selected in the end (among the 200 competitors) did not need to explain his reply.

What did he say?

He simply answered: “I’ll give the key of the car to the doctor and let him take the old lady to the hospital while I wait for the bus with the man/woman of my Dreams.”

We must stretch ourselves and be willing to think outside of the box.

A Grandma’s Wisdom:

A young boy is telling his Grandma how “everything” is going wrong. School, family problems, severe health problems, etc …

Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which of course he does. “Here, have some cooking oil.”

“Yuck!” says the boy.

“How about a couple raw eggs?”

“Gross, Grandma!”

“Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?”

“Grandma, those are all nasty!”

To which Grandma replies: “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!”

God works the same way. Many times, we wonder why God would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when God helps to put these things in Divine order, they always work for good! We just have to trust God and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!” God bless you! Have a great day filled with God’s goodness.

You are very important to God, because God created you to be a perfect expression of the Divine. The next time you feel run down and at the end of your rope, try giving thanks to God as the source of your life and energy. You will feel a refreshing stream of life renewing your mind and body. God created you a living soul and continues to breathe into you the breath of life.

Jesus came to show you the true character of life. Remember, He said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” He did not indicate that He was preparing us for future life, but for our present abundant living. We, sometimes, think that the truths Jesus talked about were just for His immediate followers, that they have nothing to do with us. But Jesus taught eternal truths. The mission of Jesus Christ is to show us that the human is an eternal being.

A good starting point for renewal and healing in the body can be based on Paul’s words; “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? … So glorify God in your body.”

Renewal and healing come through a constant recognition of the source of renewal and healing – God. There are spiritual energies that rebuild your body and maintain it, in vitality and youthfulness. When you realize this, you become enthusiastic about living. Nothing can limit the life and renewing power within you, when you commence to glorify God in your body.

Life is a gift of God to each one of us. It is absolutely unlimited, except in our concept of it. One woman said this prayer aloud every single day, “I am young, strong, beautiful. My body knows it, and my body shows it.” This simple thought has helped to strengthen her feeling of eternal life and youth.

Your body will become a willing and loving cooperator with your thoughts and words. Life itself is from God and it does not grow old. It constantly renews itself. Humans are only half awake. We live within the limitations that we set upon ourselves. God created humans, not for time, but for eternity. God created humans as a living expression of God’s own abundant, eternal life. Therefore, let us identify ourselves with God’s abundant, ever-renewing life, rather than with the idea of limitation of any kind.

A man of fifty, who was attending night school, was asked why, at this age, he was back in school. He answered: “Because I do not want to die at fifty and wait to be buried at eighty.” Many persons, in mid-life are in adult education classes and are learning new professions – medicine, law, architecture.

Some people say, “I’m too old to begin something new.” My own grandmother decided, at age forty, that she was too old to learn to drive. When she passed away, she was in her late nineties. Had she learned to drive, she would have driven for over fifty years, and it would have changed her life.

Let us cultivate the idea about ourselves that we are never too old to take out something new. Let’s work at cultivating a positive and joyous attitude and really enjoy life.

What are some of the limitations you have placed upon yourself, that keep you from expressing the joy of living? Have you ever said, “Well, at my age, I can’t expect much from life?” Do you watch life from the sidelines, instead of entering in and enjoying yourself? Do you live in the past and talk only about the good old days?

Change these habits. Enter into a joy-filled present. If you wish to be young and enthusiastic, do not carry a lot of burdens in your mind. Sometimes, a person will think that they cannot carry a bag of groceries from the car into the house; but this same person carries an impossible load of burdens in their mind. Limit the load on your mind.

Jesus came with a message of life and joy. At Positive Christianity we are trying to prepare people to live and enjoy life.

If you want to stay young and vital:

Let old thoughts and old conditions be as waters that have passed away.

Find new interests.

Arouse within yourself a love of life.

Try new things.

Let the idea of yourself, as a spiritual being, more than a physical being, become the dominating idea in your mind. When it is, your life will no longer be affected by the limitations that bind the natural human. The life you feel, at this moment, has its source in the eternal God. This life is flowing in and through you, to renew you completely.

Dear God, most of all I give thanks that You are not done with me yet. The Creator is still creating, and I accept re-creation.

Dear God, I worship You today in FULL joy. Help me to become like a child again with a mind filled of wow and wonder. If I have let life take too much of a toll on me, help me to again experience full joy and to express it daily and worship of You. Help me to wear a smile instead of a frown and show to all what being infilled with a full spiritual presence of You means.

I am ready to exhibit my inner joy.

Let’s join in prayer, turning to God as the Source of our joy. God touches within our own soul.

Let us know God is right here with us during our prayer time, the Creator of our joy.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Dear God, here I am in this moment. I come to you humbly and I ask for a God-given gift of new joy in my life. I consent to releasing old ways and habits that block and hinder me. I consent to the dissolving of painful memories that have kept me in a prison of silent gloom far too long. I am ready to rejoice and to worship You in full joy and love as your child.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Whatever our need, in prayer we turn to the presence of God and rejoice. We have God, the source of ALL good in our lives right now. God’s help is at hand. Joy wells up in us like an endless spring that has been tapped in our soul. We feel it, and sing our song of thanks and joy in response to its endless flow.

God wants us to meet in this Divine appointment, to accept our love and joy as a divine and permanent gift. May this give me something we carry daily in our soul and our mind and feel in our body.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

We rejoice in God’s love. We feel God’s love. Whatever you may pray, you can know that God’s will for you is fulfillment, because God is love. God’s will is for you unfolding yourself and being all that God made you to be. God made you to experience joy as a child again. God made you in God’s infinite Wisdom, infinite love, and infinite joy.

God is wisdom and light. It shines in the very center of your being, at the very center of your mind as you focus on the Divine in prayer … You are never done discovering the wonders and the treasures and gifts for you to open as God’s child.

The light of God brings forth in you, awareness of the talents and abilities you have been given by God.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

You rejoice anew in God’s life. Every thought in your mind, every feeling in your heart, every cell in your body, rings like a beautiful bell, just as the sound of bells is the sound of life. Let us know that life is singing its song as it courses through your body – through your nerves calming with God’s tranquility, through your veins bringing new God-given life, and through every cell of your being, shouting aliveness and new vitality.

You rejoice in God’s life.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

You rejoice in your good, because God is your ever-present good. You can know that God’s will for you is the fulfillment of your every need. God is the source of your prosperity and success. God is the source of your peace and security. God is all around you, and in you. God is love. God is joy. God is light. God is life. And God is ALL good.

And on this worship day, we give thanks for our awareness of our joy in God.

In Jesus Christ’s name … Amen.

The Gift of Your Time

It has been said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.”

A young man learns what’s most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, “Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday.” Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel, as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

“Jack, did you hear me?”

“Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It has been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago,” Jack said.

“Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d reminisce about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it,” mom told him.

“I loved that old house he lived in,” Jack said.

“You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man’s influence in your life,” she said.

“He’s the one who taught me carpentry,” he said. “I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important. Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral,” Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown.

Mr. Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door, one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time.

The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture … Jack stopped suddenly.

“What’s wrong, Jack?” his Mom asked.

“The box is gone,” he said.

“What box?” Mom asked.

“There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever tell me was ‘the thing I value most,'” Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

“Now I’ll never know what was so valuable to him,” Jack said. “I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom.”

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day, Jack discovered a note in his mailbox.

“Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days,” the note read.

Early the next day, Jack retrieved the package.

The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention.

“Mr. Harold Belser” it read.

Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There, inside, was the gold box and an envelope. Jack’s hands shook as he read the note inside.

“Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It’s the thing I valued most in my life.” A small key was taped to the letter.

His heart racing, as tears filled his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There, inside, he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover.

Inside he found these words engraved: “Jack, Thanks for your time! Harold Belser.”

“The thing he valued most … was … my time.”

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days.

“Why?” Janet, his assistant asked.

“I need some time to spend with my son,” he said.

“Oh, by the way, Janet … thanks for your time!”

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, help me never to be so busy that I forget the value of giving my time to another.

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: ‘Talking Dog For Sale’ He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

“You talk?” he asks.

“Yep,” the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says “So, what’s your story?”

The Lab looks up and says, “Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.

“I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.

“I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.”

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

“Ten dollars,” the guy says.

“Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?”

“Because he’s a liar. He never did any of that stuff.”

Mermaid verses Whale

Recently, in a large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym.

It said: “THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?”

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have a wonderful time with dolphins, stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea, and the coral reefs of Polynesia. Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected, and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids do not exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner, and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So, we aren’t heavy; we are enormously cultured, educated, and happy. Beginning today, when I look in the mirror I will think, “Good gosh, look how smart I am!”
