One day an out of work mime is visiting the zoo and attempts to earn some money as a street performer.

Unfortunately, as soon as he starts to draw a crowd, the zoo keeper grabs him and drags him into his office.

The zoo keeper explains to the mime that the zoo’s most popular attraction, a gorilla, has died suddenly. The keeper fears that attendance at the zoo will fall off. He offers the mime a job to dress up as the gorilla until they can get another one. The mime accepts.

So the next morning the mime puts on the gorilla suit and enters the cage before crowd comes. He discovers that it’s a great job. He can sleep all he wants, play and make fun of people and he draws bigger crowds than he ever did as a mime.

However, eventually the crowds tire of him and he gets bored just swinging on tires. He begins to notice that the people are paying more attention to the lion in the cage next to his. Not wanting to lose the attention of his audience, he climbs to the top of his cage, crawls across a partition, and dangles from the top to the lion’s cage. Of course, this makes the lion furious, but the crowd loves it.

At the end of the day the zoo keeper comes and gives the mime a raise for being such a good attraction as a gorilla.

Well, this goes on for some time, the mime keeps taunting the lion, the crowds grow larger, and his salary keeps going up. Then one terrible day when he is dangling over the furious lion he slips and falls. The mime is terrified. The lion gathers itself and prepares to pounce. The mime is so scared that he begins to run round and round the cage with the lion close behind. Finally, the mime starts screaming, yelling, “Help, Help me” but the lion is quick and pounces.

The mime soon finds himself flat on his back looking up at the angry lion and the lion says, “Shut up you idiot! Do you want to get us both fired?”

$5.37! That’s what the kid behind the counter at Taco Bell said to me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and something that used to be a Jolly Rancher.

Having already handed the kid a five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab some change when the kid with the Elmo hairdo said the hardest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He said, “It’s OK. I’ll just give you the senior citizen discount.”

I turned to see who he was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of me. “Only $4.68” he said cheerfully.

I stood there stupefied. I am 56, not even 60 yet? A mere child! Senior citizen?

I took my burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong with Elmo. Was he blind?

As I sat in the truck, my blood began to boil. Old? Me?

I’ll show him, I thought. I opened the door and headed back inside. I strode to the counter, and there he was waiting with a smile.

Before I could say a word, he held up something and jingled it in front of me, like I could be that easily distracted! What am I now? A toddler?

“Dude! Can’t get too far without your car keys, eh?” I stared with utter disdain at the keys. I began to rationalize in my mind.

“Leaving keys behind hardly makes a man elderly! It could happen to anyone!”

I turned and headed back to the truck. I slipped the key into the ignition, but it wouldn’t turn.

What now? I checked my keys and tried another. Still nothing.

That’s when I noticed the purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror. I had no purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror.

Then, a few other objects came into focus. The car seat in the back seat. Happy Meal toys spread all over the floorboard. A partially eaten doughnut on the dashboard.

Faster than you can say ginkgo biloba, I flew out of the alien vehicle.

Moments later I was speeding out of the parking lot, relieved to finally be leaving this nightmarish stop in my life. That is when I felt it, deep in the bowels of my stomach: hunger! My stomach growled and churned, and I reached to grab my burrito, only it was nowhere to be found.

I swung the truck around, gathered my courage, and strode back into the restaurant one final time.

There Elmo stood, draped in youth and black nail polish. All I could think was, “What is the world coming to?”

All I could say was, “Did I leave my food and drink in here”? At this point I was ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my vehicle, and then go straight home and apply for Social Security benefits.

Elmo had no clue. I walked back out to the truck, and suddenly a young lad came up and tugged on my jeans to get my attention. He was holding up a drink and a bag. His mother explained, “I think you left this in my truck by mistake.”

I took the food and drink from the little boy and sheepishly apologized.

She offered these kind words: “It’s OK. My grandfather does stuff like this all the time.”

All of this is to explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40. Yes, I was racing some kid in a Toyota Prius. And no, I told the officer, I’m not too old to be driving this fast.

As I walked in the front door, my wife met me halfway down the hall. I handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding ticket. I promptly sat in my rocking chair and covered up my legs with a blankey.

The good news was I had successfully found my way home.

And pass it on to other folk!

DADDY’S EMPTY CHAIR

A man’s daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father. When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit.

“I guess you were expecting me,” he said. “No, who are you?” said the father. The minister told him his name and then remarked, “I saw the empty chair, and I figured you knew I was going to show up.” “Oh yeah, the chair,” said the bedridden man. “Would you mind closing the door?”

Puzzled, the minister shut the door. “I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter,” said the man. “But all of my life I have never known how to pray. At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head.

“I abandoned any attempt at prayer,” the old man continued, “until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me, ‘Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest. Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It’s not spooky because he promised, ‘I will be with you always.’ Then just speak to him in the same way you’re doing with me right now.’ So, I tried it, and I’ve liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I’m careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she’d either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm.”

The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church.

Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon. “Did he die in peace?” he asked. “Yes, when I left the house about two o’clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me, and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead.

But there was something strange about his death. Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed.

What do you make of that?”

The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, “I wish we could all go like that.”

Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive.

I asked God for water; God gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower; God gave me a garden.
I asked God for a friend, God gave me all of YOU!!!

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, as I relax, I let prayer give me a lift. I am transported on the wings of prayer. In mind and heart, I rise above problems and concerns, and I give myself a higher perspective, a true perception of every situation I face. Thank You for being with me. I soar to new heights on the wings of prayer, on the wings of the realization that I am limitless and a free spirit through my connection with You.

COME UNTO ME

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

People confide that sometimes their lives seem to be chaotic as they come to terms with new ideas, or just opening their minds and hearts to a seemingly larger spirituality.

Some are able to keep their sense of humor; while others begin the fall into overwhelming feelings caused by uprooting themselves from a comfortable place to an unfamiliar place; but all are affected, deeply, by the transitions within their lives.

I am reminded, many times, as I listen to others and within my own life, of a cartoon character, running out of the door of his home, screaming and pulling out his hair – running away from a comical, but real, situation that he just cannot seem to handle adequately. The immediate picture, in my mind, is one of relief, thinking that the character is running away from his overwhelming and crazy situation, but then, I wonder to where is he running? I know that wherever he goes, there he is.

We really cannot run from our lives and from our situations, effectively. So, what do we do in these times of chaos, these times of transitions when it seems as though we just cannot take one more moment of the craziness?

Jesus said, “Come unto me.” That is what we must do, if we are to keep our sanity (or maybe even regain it). We must rest. We must rest amid all the chaos around us. God does not give us more than we can handle, in any moment – truly.

Are you doing too much? More than is needed at any moment that you feel overwhelmed? What must you really do? What can wait, until the next moment, or hour, or day? Procrastination is not necessary. But taking each task in its best and appropriate time and order is necessary. If we are multi-taskers, we still have a limit of what we can do at one time. If we are not multi-taskers, we can only do one thing at a time.

So, “Come unto me,” as Jesus said. Take a breath … and rest. Maybe the rest is purely mental. Rest. Let go of the chain of chattering thoughts and rest. Be filled with God’s purpose and joy, as your transition happens, whatever it may be. Maybe the rest is physical.

Rest.

Allow yourself to take breaks, even small ones. You will have greater energy, afterwards, and will probably even accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

As we continue through each day of our lives, we remember the words, “Come unto me.” Whether we are going through transitions, or whether we are just going through a day, we remember, “Come unto me.” We rest as we need to. We rest in God.

As we rest in God, we are filled with God’s awesome strength and peace of mind. We are filled with the knowingness that we are doing the best we can with what we have to work with, at any given time.

God fills us, always, with the peace that we are fulfilling our purpose, one moment at a time. God fills us with the joy of life as we move from moment to moment, day to day, seeing and appreciating all that is before us. God fills us with unconditional love, for ourselves and for others, as we realize that all is truly well.

“Come unto me.”

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Dear God, today I come to You.
I ask you to relieve the tension in my mind and body and give me lasting peace.
I pray that You will take away my stress.
I pray that You, dear God, will give me a vision of brighter tomorrows.

WHEN YOU ARE DOWN TO NOTHING - GOD IS UP TO SOMETHING!

“God is at work in you, both to will and to work for God’s good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13

Today, you let go and let God’s life flow through you. God does God’s perfect work in you and through you. You are healthy, whole, and vitally alive.

You let go and let God’s wisdom flow through you. God does God’s perfect work in you, and right paths are revealed.

You let go and let God’s love flow through you. God’s love governs every one of your actions. God does God’s perfect work in you, and you are blessed with harmonious and happy relationships.

You let go and let God’s abundance flow through you. All thoughts of lack and limitation are cleansed from your mind. God does God’s perfect work in you, and good overflows into your life and everything that pertains to your life.

You let go and you let God’s peace flow through you. The peace that passes understanding fills your mind and heart. God does God’s perfect work in you, and peace flows out from you to encompass your world.

When we let go of our lower, human ways of trying to do things, or trying to push things our way, we find new freedom instead of slavery to old habits.

In Galatians 5:1, our Bible states, “For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.”

Is there some habit, some attitude, some way of thinking, some way of meeting life, from which you would like to be free?

You let go and you let God’s freeing power flow through you. You declare in prayer, “I am free!” You are free, and you do not need to continue in a way of life that you feel is not serving a good purpose. As you pray, you feel God supporting and sustaining you. You can let go of that which you do not want, that which is not positive and constructive.

Your next step is always to accept the good that you desire from God. You are free to be and to do that which you long to be and to do, and it is up to you to accept your good from God. Jesus said that you could do great things. You let go of the old and you let God’s life flow through you. This is the day that the Lord has given you to declare your freedom and to accept your good.

You are not bound to old habits, old ways, and old frustrations. God does God’s perfect work in you, and you are vitally, positively alive.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Thank You for supplying me with right answers.

Thank You, God, for the beauty that is present everywhere I look.

Thank You for the variety of sights, sounds, tastes, and aromas that delight me.

Thank You for the little things that add to life’s enjoyment.

Thank You for Your grace and forgiveness.

Thank You for letting me truly accept them, thus freeing me from anguish and sorrow.

Thank You for teaching me how to forgive others, and how to love in your way, unconditionally.

Thank You for the protection, the warmth, and the security You provide.

Thank You for helping me realize what is really important in life, and what it is that I really seek.

Thank You, God, for teaching me, daily, to rely more on You.

Thank you for helping me to make the decision to quit worrying, to let go, and to let You manage my life.

Dear God,

I have made the decision to let go of the feeling that everything depends upon me and my efforts. I have decided to let go of the tendency to feel hurt or rejected when there is misunderstanding. Thank you for helping me let go of fearful thinking, to let go of anxious concern for my dear ones.

I thank You, God; I follow Jesus by trusting you. I know that You are with me and my dear ones. I thank You, Dear God, for your goodness. I have faith that nothing can stand between me and my good. I know that God’s will for me is good and the only good.

In great gratitude and thanksgiving, I now turn everything over to God.

In total trust, I say in prayer-

Tuesday Prayer and Meditation

“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon them, and the spirit of wisdom and understanding.”

Let us Pray:

The word of God is a word that speaks positively to you. It is a word that allows you to be regenerated, made new, in mind and in body.

Galatians 3:27 says, “I put on the Christ.” With me, now, put on these thoughts of Christ mind: I accept the fact that I am a child of God. I am the living offspring of the living love of God. I am love. I am wisdom.

Your human mind is connected, fused, with Divine mind. You think with crystal clarity. You think with the foundation of Divine ideas.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

I am in Divine order in mind, body, and all the situations in my life. I decree, in Jesus Christ’s name, that there is Divine order in my life. There is an order of thoughts in my mind. There is a Divine order of functioning in my body. There is a natural order, a progression of good, in my life, under the direction of God.

Knowing my connection to God, I decree: I am one with the life of God. There is new life in my body temple; new dreams and motivations; new things to get up for in the morning and to keep on going. Blessed by God, I am in full life, and full life is in me.

I decree that I am one with the health of God. There is perfect health in every organ of my body temple; God health, regenerated, new, ever-cleansing, ever-fresh lives within me.

I am one with the grace of God. The grace of God seems to meet me wherever I go. The love of God is infilling my life and affairs. I am in grace. I attract grace to every circumstance in my life. The grace of God is with me.

I am one with the harmony of God. I have peace of mind and well-being.

Accept these thoughts now.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

I am one with the peace of God. I am one with faith of God. I am one with the spiritual consciousness of God’s inexhaustible riches. I am one with the light of God. I am one with the love of God. The love of God is not something for which I have to struggle. It comes to me and through me automatically. I am empowered because I am empowered by the purified love of God.

I decree that any person who comes in contact with me comes in contact with God’s love. All nervousness, anger, or hostility are cast out. They are not needed. The love of God has no room for these, and I have no room for these in my spiritual consciousness. I consent NOW to the pure love of God.

In my body, I am strength. I feel the renewed power of God as I decree: I am strength. I am freedom. I am power. I accept God’s blessings. I put on the Christ in every thought and cell of my being. I am success. The Christ is not a failure. The Christ always succeeds in all situations, and I succeed in full partnership with God.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

I am purity. I am pure from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, and I am pure in mind. The Christ cleanses me through and through. Wholeness is my nature.

I am the word. I speak to myself, and it shall be done unto me. I make these spiritual statements faithfully, and I meditate on each word until the inner meaning unfolds in my consciousness. I am unified with the word of God, and I know that I become part of the very substance of that word.

I am joy. This room is filled with the joy of God from the innermost being of each of us. We broadcast this out to touch those around us. This room becomes the living joy of the living God.

I am satisfaction. There is nothing in me that is not satisfied. In this moment of time, connected with God, connected with all I have ever wanted or all I will ever want, I feel satisfaction.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Dear God, I have come to this moment in my life prepared to live fully. I am prepared to stop wanting and coming to the point of being. I allow this to happen through me. I consent to these things to be the best I can be by allowing You to be in and through me.

Thank You, God. And I thank myself for allowing the ego to step aside and allowing the fullness of life to come through.

In Jesus Christ’s name we pray … Amen.

I was with a dear, sweet person recently that was wound so tight that she was a bundle of nerves. She was constantly glancing at her watch, and could not stand still for even one minute. Some people reading this Positive Daily Inspiration may find themselves relating too much to this anxious person.

She kept glancing at her watch, waiting for something to happen, I think she was nervously waiting for God to make things better. She was living from worry to worry.

God wants to make things better and help to unwind life’s tight grip – but you must cooperate to allow God to help.

Just as a clenched fist cannot receive, the clenched soul cannot relax in God’s peaceful presence.

God is not found in nervous, anxious, human rush – God is found in the peaceful, relaxing silence.

Take your eye off the watch and watch more with your eyes. Choose today to look for and to find God in your everyday life. Spiritual people know that even in the ordinary routine, you can find God. Turn to God in prayer — whether you have a challenge or not.

It is true that certain situations require more time and continuous prayer in order to be resolved, so you need an extra measure of strength – in mind and heart — that only God can give you.

As you release your worries to the Divine wisdom of God, you free yourself to be a source of prayer support and strength for everyone.

God’s wonderful will is being done, even now, as you rest in the realization that God is in charge.

You can let go of anxiety, and worry, when you consider how beautifully the universe and nature function in an intricate balance without your interference. Today, you watch more with your eyes. Seeing the sheer magnitude of God’s power and order, you find it easier to completely trust God, and to let God be in charge of your life.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER

Dear God, at times I have asked You for things I thought I needed in order to be happy or fulfilled, and You have always listened.

Time after time, I came away from prayer so satisfied and relaxed that I forgot what I thought I needed. What I had received was a deep satisfaction of the soul that built upon itself each time I prayed, each time I made a watchful connection with Your Divine presence.

Now I realize that the purpose of my prayer time is not just to get things or to fix situations. In prayer, I sit with You. In prayer, I walk with You. In prayer, I talk with You. In prayer, I listen to You.

I know Your presence with every fiber of my being.

Thank you dear God. God, there is no reward that is greater, no gift that is of more value than knowing You.

Thank you, thank you God!

This guy was watching TV as his wife was out cutting the grass during the hot summer. He finally worked up the energy to go out and ask his wife what was for supper.

Well, his missus was quite irritated about him sitting in the air conditioned house all day while she did all the work, so she scolded him. “I can’t believe you’re asking me about supper right now! Imagine I’m out of town, go inside and figure dinner out yourself!”

So he went back in the house and fixed himself a big steak, with potatoes, garlic bread and tall glass of iced tea.

The wife finally walked in about the time he was finishing up and asked him, “You fixed something to eat? So where is mine?”

“Huh? I thought you were out of town.”

Today, you know that God is at work in your life and in all that pertains to your life. You pray, constantly, for patience. You are calm and positive today, because God is at work behind the scenes, bringing forth the birth of new good, in all aspects of your life.

You overcome any sense of impatience as you learn to trust God’s infinite wisdom and perfect timing. You know that God’s will for you is good and only good, and that a right outworking in all things is now coming forth. In the fullness of time, all that is for your highest good will come, easily and automatically, to you.

Today, you refuse to be discouraged by any seeming delay, for you realize that nothing can keep God’s good from you. God’s perfect way has no obstacles. There is no failure in God’s plan of good. You follow Jesus by agreeing not to judge by appearances; rather, you rely on the sure and certain spiritual process that you know is taking place, right now. With God’s ever-present help, you are not anxious, for you know that God guides and protects you. God is providing for you, right now. God’s presence is ever with you, healing and strengthening you, in mind and body, as well as in you soul. God’s prospering ideas are yours to use today, right now, right where you are. With an awareness of the presence of God with you this very moment, you are patient and at ease, for God is at work.

Patience proceeds peace. Even when you are in a situation that is demanding, or even confusing, you trust in God. Harmonizing peace covers you like a Divine blanket.

All through this day, as you practice patience, you also allow thoughts of peace in your mind and feelings of peace in your heart. Living in God’s patient power, you are able to express peace to those around you and help them to be peaceful and harmonious. Peace brings about clarity of mind and receptivity to the ideas of God.

Dear God, I pray that I fully realize You are at work in my life and affairs. Help me to see beyond the moment, to the perfect answers that You provide with Divine timing.
