EXCERPTS FROM A CAT’S DIARY

DAY 752 – My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 – Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their FAVORITE chair … must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 – Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was … Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 – I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called “shampoo.” What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 – There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call “beer”. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of “allergies.” Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 – I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time …

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone , Since 1999, now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: “I’ve been married , Since 1999, now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.

“Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!” When you are DOWN to nothing … God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!

Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

When negativity is knocking at your door, simply say, “God, could you get that for me?” We set our clocks to arise at 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m. to be at the job by 8:00 a.m., yet when Sunday comes, many have trouble getting to church by 11:00 a.m. to praise the one who gave them the jobs!

We call God our Father, but many find it hard to introduce God to their family and friends. Many demand justice for others, but they expect mercy from God.

Many people, as they look at their lives, how small their errors seem, but how big “others” errors are.

Many have difficulty learning the gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is to understand and explain the latest gossip about someone else.

Some people can’t think of anything to say when they pray, but don’t have any difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.

We are so quick to take directions from a total stranger when we are lost, but are hesitant to take God’s direction for our lives.

People want God to answer their prayers, but sometimes refuse to listen to God’s counsel.

Many blame God for the wrong and suffering in the world, but never take the time to thank God for what is good and pleasant. The huge percentage of good always overwhelms the small percentage that we call bad, if we have the eyes to see it.

When something goes wrong, many will cry, “Lord, why me?” but when something goes right, they think, “Hey, it must be me!”

So many church goers sing “Standing on the Promises” but all they do is sit on the premises.

Dear God, today I stand on a firm foundation for the rest of my life of complete, non-doubting faith in Your power.

CROWNED WITH LIFE SUCCESS

“Come away by yourselves … and rest a while.”
Mark 6:31

I love talking about what God has done in people’s lives over the years. I have seen firsthand God’s power change lives. Going to God is the most powerful action that we can do as a human being.

Take a few moments at the beginning of this day and, at intervals during the week, just to be still in prayer, to sit quietly, and to say to yourself.

“I relax; I let go; I let God take over in the management of this day. Be still and know that the presence of God is here now.”

You refuse to let worry and anxiety diffuse your thought forces and deplete your energy. You overcome any tendency to be anxious by centering your thoughts on God. You follow Jesus by turning your thoughts away from the things that trouble you or make you fearful and focus, instead, on the presence and power of God ever with you. As you center your thoughts on God, you can release the needs, the problems, the decisions that seems so pressing, and you are filled with a peaceful feeling.

Centered in God, you live a life that is crowned with success. You are able to take out your activities with a feeling of freshness and renewal, and you meet the needs of this day with confidence, knowing that God is with you.

You place yourself and all that concerns you, lovingly, in God’s care. Quietly and trustingly, you rest in God’s abiding presence. You no longer harbor thoughts of doubt, anxiety, or uncertainty. You are at peace. New inspiration and growing faith are yours.

In James 3:17, our wonderful Bible states, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits.”

Attuned to God’s guidance, you walk in pathways of light. The steps you should take are revealed to you, and justice, order, and harmony reign supreme in your life. You give thanks that nothing can withhold your good from you, and that all your efforts are crowned with success.

You have pure, perfect ideas revealed to you. You have a gentle peace come within you that is so great that it passes understanding (meaning that it is not based on what is going on around you but instead, the feeling that you have inside of you.

God’s ideas are always reasonable and filled with mercy for you and overflowing with good fruit.

You bless all those persons whose lives touch yours and behold God’s bountiful good pouring out upon them, fulfilling all their needs.

May today there be peace within
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be …
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you …
May you be content knowing you are a child of God …
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, It is there for each and every one of you …

On several occasions, Jesus went aside or took His Apostles aside from the crowds for a time of quiet, rest, and prayer. Away from the noise and the confusion, they could truly abide in the peace and quiet of God’s presence.

On this day, in between yesterday and tomorrow, you too can take time for quiet, rest, and prayer. Today you can journey aside and practice the silence of prayer. Abiding in the peace and quiet of God’s presence, you unfold spiritually. You commune with God in the silence of prayer and you are refreshed, renewed, strengthened, and encouraged directly from God. I encourage you to turn within for communion with God, the source of your life and the source of your renewing power.

Nothing in the outer world has power to disturb you as you take time each day in May to abide for a few moments in the stillness of God’s presence. As you abide in God’s presence, you gain a sense of mastery over your life and a greater peace of mind.

LOVE IS THE KEYNOTE OF THIS WEEK

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:35

A “Positive Daily Inspiration” subscriber wrote us: “I read the Positive Inspiration every morning and I am filled with love for the whole day. I see only love in everyone and I bless them all. I am 81 years old and I have been reading Positive Inspiration faithfully for almost four years, it has made my life beautiful.”

What a lovely way to start the day – to see only love in everyone and to bless them all!

Let us make love our keynote this week – love of God and love of the people in our lives. Let us pour out a blessing of love upon all. Love makes life beautiful. Love banishes fear. Love heals hurt feelings; love forgives slights. Love does not see faults and failings; love sees the good in all persons. Love calls forth the good in all persons. Love unifies us with one another; love unifies us with God. Love smooths the way before us. Love invites happy experiences. Love makes this a perfect day.

Jesus knew what he was talking about. He made love the keynote of His life-changing teaching. He said that God IS love.

How often a thoughtless word has been spoken and caused unnecessary pain and the loss of goodwill or friendship. Instead of speaking impulsively and without thinking, today, you resolve to pause for a moment and wait for Divine direction, before you speak or act. Divine direction could be called love direction because God IS love.

Sometimes we will act unwisely on the spur of the moment. This week, you resolve to wait for Divine direction before making any move, and then to act, deliberately and confidently, knowing that you move in God’s love.

Every day, you are confronted with many decisions, but the most important decision is the decision to be loving – ALL the time.

You need to make choices that may affect your health, well-being, and prosperity. Before making choices, you take a moment to become still in prayer and to wait for Divine direction, knowing that your choice will then be for your good and the highest good of all concerned.

In every move you make this week, I ask you to pause for an instant and wait for Divine loving direction.

Thessalonians 5:17-18, “Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

The river of life is within you. It is the river of God and it is flowing all the time. What goes on in God’s river? Divine love, Divine life, Divine order, Divine imagination, Divine power, Divine judgment, Divine understanding, zeal and faith; Divine wisdom, strength, and elimination of things you no longer wish to be a part of your life flowing within you, as you, all of the time. Thought always creates after its kind. With a startled awareness, you realize God’s river and your human thought stream are one. The ceaseless, endless flow of God thought is the ceaseless prayer stream of your being.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

Day and night, asleep or awake, God is always working, moving, acting, and thinking. You are one with God. Each of us is one with God.

Hold this thought in the silence of prayer …

God, I realize through prayer that you neither slumber nor sleep. Deeply, humbly, you realize the basic reality of your being is always God. Never changing. With utmost devotion, you keep your human thought stream, your life-stream, pure, clean, cleansed, just as it flows forth from the great love of God within you.

This is the purpose of prayer and meditation. You think with God, work with God, act with God, and know that your consciousness is completely infilled by God. You choose not to contaminate your thought stream with fear, rage, anger, limitation, or resentment. You know these are lower human habits and there is no place in it for images of misery and doubt, sickness or uncertainty. Time, space, greed, age, density, evaporate completely in the Divine realization you are all one in God and God is all one in you.

The pure river of the water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God, is within you. It is the permanency of your soul. The sovereign, all-creative one God is the tree of life. The leaves, the thoughts, the ideas are for the healing of all nations the world over, all conditions and all people. The fountain of God’s pure love flows through your soul and you are forever bathed in the stream of immortal life.

Rest in the silence of prayer …

We pray, this morning, knowing this is the truth about ourselves, about each other, about all of humanity.

A woman told the story of a particularly difficult time in her life. Nothing seemed to go right, and she felt terribly alone. While thumbing through the Bible, her eyes caught the words: “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from?” She said this statement immediately dissolved her fear and her loneliness, and she was given inspiration and motivation to change her life, because she knew that God was with her.

Sometimes we will read something, or hear something that will be like God speaking directly to us. In that moment, we will be given the spiritual strength that we so need.

We often put exceptions into God’s ability to be with us, to provide for us, to comfort us. Yet, when we really think about it, we know that God is with us – at least we know on an intellectual level. How do we know this, deeply – in our hearts and souls and minds – especially during difficult periods in our lives?

We stop – even for 5 seconds – we stop, in our minds, and we remind ourselves. That’s all it takes. It is like learning a skill. The first times we do something new or unfamiliar, it feels awkward. We say to ourselves, “I’ll never be able to do this!” And “I’ll never remember to stop for even ONE second!”

Yet, each time we perform a new action, our minds begin the work of making it comfortable for us. Remember learning how to type? Or learning how to tie your shoes? Or learning how to hold a pencil? Or using a computer?

At first it was awkward. Some of us were sure we would never learn this new task. There was a fear of failure, of not knowing if we could do it. Others were a little braver and knew that someday they would master the task, no matter what they needed to do. They had a bit of excitement and anticipation in learning the new task.

The first weeks, we might remember to stop for 5 seconds and remember that God is always with us only 1 time each day, or an average of 5 times a week. If we want to learn this skill, we’ll keep trying, and eventually, we’ll remember to stop for 5 seconds once a day … then 2 or 3 times day … until, one day, we stop … We stop and, suddenly, we realize that we have formed a habit of stopping for 5 seconds every time we feel a little frustrated, angry, lonely, or confused – that we stop for 5 seconds, and we are filled with the knowing – the deepest knowing within our souls, our hearts, and our minds – that God is always with us. And all is well.

We then go forward in our day, knowing that we have accomplished something that we never thought possible, at one time. And we begin to know that all is possible, with God’s help and with God by our side.

A frail elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of “moving” Church services. She truly felt the presence of the Holy Spirit around her as she entered the front door of her home. Upon entering the house, she was immediately startled by an intruder. As she caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables, she yelled, “Stop mister! Acts 2:38!” (Freeze, repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven.) The burglar stopped in his tracks and stood motionless with his back to her as she calmly called the police and told them she had a burglar willing to “turn himself in” in her house.

As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, “Why did you just stand there?

“All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you.”

“Scripture!” replied the burglar.

“I swear I heard her say she had an Ax and Two 38’s!”

Remember knowing scripture can save your life in more ways than one.

SELF-WORTH

To appreciate your true worth is to recognize that the Spirit of God created you and is with you daily. God comes through your mind with Divine ideas making you all-wise. God comes through your body making you all capable. As you realize the power of God with you and within you, you become a channel through which this power flows. You make important contributions to life and life appreciates you for what you are — a child of God.

To be truly successful you must appreciate your true worth as a child of God. Nothing great is ever accomplished by a person who does not believe in him or herself.

You have powers and potentials you have not yet begun to realize. As you recognize your true worth as a child of God, you are inspired to call forth and use your God given talents, many of which are still undiscovered powers and potentials. You are imbued with a strength and stamina needed to accomplish all that you are capable of accomplishing. God is capable and ready to accomplish great things through you. To humans it might be impossible but WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

Self-confidence is basic to success. If you are one who downgrades your ability, who thinks in terms of fear and failure, how do you change this picture; how do you put on self-confidence?

Self-confidence is increased as self-awareness of God with you is increased. What is self-awareness? It is to be aware that beyond the limited human self is the self created in the image and likeness of God.

Jesus Christ urges you today, through his teachings, to become more than you think you can become.

With God, you are unlimited. With God, you have great powers and capabilities. No matter what you are trying to succeed in accomplishing, you have innate essentials for success. With God, you have wisdom, intelligence, strength, power and light. With God, you are capable and you are success motivated. Through faith in God’s presence with you at all times, you develop a self-confidence that is based on strength of God instead of the limitations of your human self. With God, you will be successful in ALL your endeavors.

As it says in Genesis 1:26, “Let them have dominion.” It is time for you to have dominion over your life by realizing that you are more than flesh and blood. It is time for you to take dominion over your life by realizing that you are not defined by past failure and limitations. It is time for you to take dominion over your life by realizing you are never alone, God is with you.

POSITIVE DAILY PRAYER:

Through the touch of God, I pray that I have a new self-image of myself.
I pray that I can see myself the way that God sees me, and therefore value my worth.
